2008 Film Award Eligibility    

The voting deadline for the 2008 Film Awards has passed and winners will be announced at the GSCA International Conference and Trade Show in Jersey City in September. We will notify members of the 2009 eligibility policy early next year.



BEST FILM

One film will be awarded the Best Film. An online ballot link will be sent to the main contact person at each member organization.

  • The first ballot will include all giant screen films as per the following eligibility criteria: "To be eligible, films must have been:  a) produced in their original form specifically for giant screen theaters; b) premiered in giant screen theaters before being released identically or in some variation for other types of presentation formats; and c) released and played at a member’s theater from May 1, 2007, to April 30, 2008. And also a film cannot be eligible for a specific award that it has won in the past."

  • Films are eligible for the GSCA Film Awards one year. If the release of a film (first playing of film in a public performance) falls within 60 days of the deadline for eligibility, the distributor has the option of allowing the film to be on the ballot for the current year or the following year.

  • Voters can select up to three films.
  • The first ballot will be sent to key contact members in mid-May.
  • The second ballot will include the top five selections as chosen by the membership.
  • Voters must select only one film on the second/final ballot.
  • The second ballot will be sent to members in June.


BEST CINEMATOGRAPHY

One film will be awarded the Best Cinematography. An online ballot link will be sent to the main contact person at each member organization.

  • The first ballot will include all giant screen films as per the following eligibility criteria: "To be eligible, films must have been:  a) produced in their original form specifically for giant screen theaters; b) premiered in giant screen theaters before being released identically or in some variation for other types of presentation formats; and c) released and played at a member’s theater from May 1, 2007, to April 30, 2008.  And also a film cannot be eligible for a specific award that it has won in the past.

  • Films are eligible for the GSCA Film Awards one year.   • The first ballot will include all giant screen films as per the following eligibility criteria: "To be eligible, films must have been:  a) produced in their original form specifically for giant screen theaters; b) premiered in giant screen theaters before being released identically or in some variation for other types of presentation formats; and c) released and played at a member’s theater from May 1, 2007, to April 30, 2008.  And also a film cannot be eligible for a specific award that it has won in the past."

  • Films are eligible for the GSCA Film Awards one year.   • Criteria set by the Production and Technical Committee will guide voters in their selection: The Sound Design of a film is the audio elements of the sound track that do not include music composition but do include Location Recording, Sound Effects, Foley, Dialogue, and Final Mix.

  • The second ballot will include the top five selections as chosen by the membership.
  • Voters must select only one film on the second/final ballot.
  • The second ballot will be sent to members in June.

BEST ORIGINAL SCORE  New This Year!

One film will be awarded the Best Original Score. An online ballot link will be sent to the main contact person at each member organization.

  • The first ballot will include all giant screen films as per the following eligibility criteria: "To be eligible, films must have been:  a) produced in their original form specifically for giant screen theaters; b) premiered in giant screen theaters before being released identically or in some variation for other types of presentation formats; and c) released and played at a member’s theater from May 1, 2007, to April 30, 2008.  And also a film cannot be eligible for a specific award that it has won in the past."

  • Films are eligible for the GSCA Film Awards one year.   • Criteria set by the Production and Technical Committee will guide voters in their selection: An Original Score is the instrumental music created expressly for the film which underscores the action and supports its dramatic needs. A great score is one that provides dramatic power, humor, thematic beauty, emotional impact, and/or any other musical attribute of significance to the film.
  • Voters can select up to three films.
  • The first ballot will be sent to key contact members in mid-May.
  • The second ballot will include the top five selections as chosen by the membership.
  • Voters must select only one film on the second/final ballot.
  • The second ballot will be sent to members in June.


BEST SPECIAL ACHIEVEMENT IN FILM

This award is intended to recognize an outstanding achievement of any kind within the film production area, and there is no requirement that this award be given every year. Each GSCA member has the right to nominate one individual for a Best Special Achievement.

  • The achievement mush have been accomplished in relation to the production of an eligible film as per the following eligibility criteria: "To be eligible, films must have been:  a) produced in their original form specifically for giant screen theaters; b) premiered in giant screen theaters before being released identically or in some variation for other types of presentation formats; and c) released and played at a member’s theater from May 1, 2007, to April 30, 2008. And also a film cannot be eligible for a specific award that it has won in the past."

  • Criteria below set by the Production and Technical Committee will guide members in their nomination:
    1. An achievement in the film production area which stands out as exceptional in its own right within a particular giant screen film production; or
    2. An achievement in the film production area that significantly enhances the ability of a particular film, and potentially giant screen films generally, to be produced with the best tools to the highest standards.
  • Each GSCA member can nominate a maximum of one individual.
  • An online nomination form will be available in May.
  • A Best Special Achievement Subcommittee (SAIF) will review all nominations and present 3 to 5 recommended nominees for final selection by the SAIF Subcommittee.
  • SAIF Subcommittee will select a winner (by a majority of votes cast) in July and shall have the option to vote that no award be given.
