The submission deadline for the 2009 Special Achievement Award was May 29, so GSCA is no longer accepting nominations. Details for next year's awards will be posted in early 2010.
This award is intended to recognize an outstanding achievement of any kind within the film production area and will be presented at the International Conference in Indianapolis.
Each GSCA member may nominate a maximum of one individual.
The achievement must have been accomplished in relation to the production of an eligible film as follows. To be eligible, films must have been: a) produced in their original form specifically for giant screen theaters; b) premiered in giant screen theaters before being released identically or in some variation for other types of presentation formats and; c) released and played at a GSCA member’s theater from May 1, 2008, to April 30, 2009.
The following criteria will guide members in their nominations:
- An achievement in the film production area which stands out as exceptional in its own right within a particular giant screen film production; or
- An achievement in the film production area that significantly enhances the ability of a particular film, and potentially giant screen films generally, to be produced with the best tools to the highest standards.
The films eligible for this year's award are:
- Animalopolis
- Journey to Mecca: In the Footsteps of Ibn Battuta
- Mysteries of the Great Lakes
- Under the Sea 3D
- Van Gogh: Brush with Genius
