Wild Ocean
Wild Ocean
is in an uplifting, giant screen cinema experience capturing one of nature's greatest migration spectacles. Plunge into an underwater feeding frenzy, amidst the dolphins, sharks, whales, gannets, seals and billions of fish. Filmed off the Wild Coast of South Africa,
Wild Ocean
is a timely documentary that celebrates the animals that now depend on us to survive and the efforts by the local people to protect this invaluable ecological resource. Hope is alive on the Wild Coast, where Africa meets the sea.
Genre
Documentary, Ecology, Nature, Oceanography
Awards
Outstanding Achievement Award, Jackson Hole Wildlife Film Festival, October 2009.
Wild Ocean
was specifically recognized for its capture of complex 3D underwater footage in a treacherous and challenging geographical and marine environment. Negotiating a chaotic underwater ballet of sharks, dolphins, gannets, seals, and millions of sardines, the
Wild Ocean
production team successfully captured the elusive and frenzied animal behavior that brings the audience truly into the center of the action. Such footage is challenging to capture in 2D; to shoot this great migration in 3D is a notable first in wildlife filmmaking.
Film of the Year, Earthwatch Institute, March 2009.
Best Original Score, presented to Luke Cresswell and Steve McNicholas, Giant Screen Cinema Association (GSCA), 2008.
Best Sound Design, presented to Brian Eimer, Mike Roberts, and J.R. Fountain, Giant Screen Cinema Association (GSCA), 2008.
