IMAX Corporation Reports Second Quarter 2008 Financial Results

August 7, 2008--IMAX Corporation today reported that it recorded a net loss per diluted share of $0.29 for the second quarter of fiscal 2008, compared to a net loss of $0.11 per diluted share for the second quarter of fiscal 2007. At the same time, the company announced that the rollout of its IMAX Digital system technology launched as scheduled, with the successful delivery and installation of its first three digital projection systems at three AMC Entertainment, Inc. theaters located in the Baltimore/Washington D.C. area, during the second quarter.

GSCA Announces 2008 Marketing Award Winners

July 1, 2008--The Giant Screen Cinema Association today announced the winners of its annual marketing awards. A panel of 5 judges reviewed more than 14 entries and named the 2008 winners: Best Film Launch by a Theater goes to Museum of Science—Boston for its launch of The Alps, Best Marketing by a Distributor goes to MacGillivray Freeman films for Grand Canyon Adventure: River at Risk, Best New Theater Launch goes to the Myrtle Beach IMAX Theater, and the Best Big Idea goes to National Geographic for its day-and-date release of Sea Monsters: A Prehistoric Adventure to 260 screens worldwide.

GSCA's Tammy Seldon Earns Credentials as a Certified Meeting Professional

March 20, 2008--Tammy Seldon, GSCA’s Director of Conferences and Membership, recently received her credentials as a Certified Meeting Professional (CMP). Seldon took the certification exam in February and in March was notified of the results. The requirements for certification are based on professional experience and a written examination. The foremost certification program of today's meetings, conventions, and exhibitions industry, the CMP program recognizes individuals who have achieved the industry's highest standard of professionalism.

GSCA Announces Board Officers and Committee Chairs

March 18, 2008--The Giant Screen Cinema Association elected its new officers of the board at the European Film Expo held March 4-5 in London at the Science Museum and the British Film Institute theaters. The officers of the board are as follows: Toby Mensforth, Smithsonian Business Ventures, was elected Chair; and Doug King, Saint Louis Science Center, was elected Vice Chair. Both will serve two-year terms. Elected for one-year terms are Patricia Keighley, DKP 70MM, Inc., as Secretary; and Gordon Stalans, Tennessee Aquarium, as Treasurer. The Executive Committee will include the officers listed above plus one director from each of the three overall sectors (Exhibition, Production/Distribution, and Manufacturer/Supplier). From exhibition is Berend Reijnhoudt, Omniversum; from production/distribution is Mike Lutz, MacGillivray Freeman Films; and from manufacturer/supplier is Andrew Oran, Fotokem.

Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Science Station IMAX Theater to Close January 20

January 3, 2008--The Science Station board has announced that the IMAX theater will cease to operate as of January 20. The board emphasized that they and the staff are focused on improving the Science Station, delivering on its long standing mission to provide exciting hands on learning opportunities and science and math education outreach. “The board and staff made every effort to make the theater work but ultimately we had to make this very difficult decision.” said Dan Thies, President of the Science Station board. “The theater has not been profitable in recent years and we can no longer afford to subsidize it at the expense of our core mission.”
