August 14, 2009--Harbourside, the new world-class aquarium and IMAX theater in Bristol, England, has appointed a manager in preparation for its opening at the end of October. Alex Page, 35, the former Head of Commercial Operations at Bristol Zoo Gardens, is to take charge of the new attraction.
August 11, 2009--IMAX Corporation announced today the pricing of its public offering of 5,882,353 of its common shares at $8.50 per share. Gross proceeds from the offering are expected to be approximately $50 million. IMAX has granted the underwriter an option to purchase up to an additional 882,353 shares of common stock at the public offering price, less the underwriting commission, within 30 days following pricing. The offering is expected to close on or around August 17, 2009.
August 6, 2009--IMAX Corporation today reported net income of $2.6 million, or $0.05 per diluted share, for the second quarter ended June 30, 2009, compared to a net loss of $12.2 million, or $0.29 per diluted share, for the second quarter of 2008. Total revenues increased 94 percent to $41.0 million, compared to total revenues of $21.2 million last year. The company generated operating income of $6.5 million, a turnaround of over $14.0 million compared to an operating loss of $7.7 million in the year-ago period.
August 3, 2009--IMAX Corporation and Warner Bros. Pictures today announced that the wide domestic release of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince: An IMAX 3D Experience opened with strong box office results, generating a five day total of approximately $4.7 million from 166 IMAX theaters. The film's domestic three-day weekend total is approximately $3.2 million, with a per screen average of approximately $19,000 from Friday, July 31, through Sunday, August 2. The IMAX release contributed approximately 17 percent of the film's $18 million domestic weekend total. Nineteen of the top twenty and forty-seven out of the top fifty screens showing the film in North America during the weekend were IMAX locations.
July 29, 2009--Sony Pictures Animation and IMAX Corporation today announced that Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs, an adaptation of the bestselling children's book written by Judi Barrett and illustrated by Ron Barrett, written for the screen and directed by Christopher Miller and Phil Lord, will be released to IMAX theaters simultaneously with the film's wide release on September 18, 2009. The special IMAX 3D release will be digitally re-mastered from Sony Pictures Animation's Stereoscopic 3D with IMAX DMR (Digital Re-Mastering) technology. The film is produced by Pam Marsden.
July 29, 2009--MacGillivray Freeman Films, leading producers of original giant screen IMAX theater films, and Oceana, the largest international organization focused solely on ocean conservation, today announced a partnership to develop a global marketing and educational outreach campaign for the release of the film To The Arctic. To the Arctic is a timely new 3D documentary and the first for IMAX theaters to document the unprecedented changes occurring near the North Pole as temperatures in the Arctic heat up due to climate change. The partnership was formally announced today by Greg MacGillivray, president of MacGillivray Freeman Films, and Jim Ayers, vice president of Oceana.
July 28, 2009--Biologist-turned-filmmaker David Lickley will be traveling through the Northwest Passage aboard a Coast Guard icebreaker from July 29, 2009, to August 6, 2009. Lickley, the Director of Large Format Films at Science North, is part of a major scientific expedition called C3O (Canada’s 3 Oceans) studying the ocean currents and the effects of climate change on the Arctic.

July 27, 2009--IMAX Corporation has announced that the Paramount Pictures release Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen: The IMAX Experience, directed by Michael Bay and executive produced by Steven Spielberg, featuring scenes filmed with IMAX cameras, crossed the $40 million box office milestone worldwide after its fourth week in release from 169 IMAX theaters domestically and 61 IMAX theaters internationally.
July 27, 2009--IMAX Corporation and VieShow Cinemas, the leading exhibitor in Taiwan, today announced an agreement to open six additional IMAX theaters in Taiwan, following the strong results at its first IMAX location at the Sun VieShow Cinemas multiplex in the city of Taipei. The installations are scheduled to be completed by June 2014, and all locations will utilize IMAX's digital projection technology. The exhibitor's first IMAX location opened with the launch of DreamWorks Animation's Monsters vs. Aliens: An IMAX 3D Experience, followed by Paramount Pictures' Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen: The IMAX Experience, which ranked the theater as the highest-grossing screen in the country, generating $125,469 on its opening weekend.
