IMAX Signs Theater Deal with Europe's Largest Exhibitor

October 27, 2008--IMAX Corporation and Odeon Cinemas Ltd., Europe's largest exhibitor, have announced an agreement to install two IMAX theaters in Great Britain. The deal marks IMAX's second European theater announcement in two weeks, and continues the company's global expansion with its new digital projection system. To date, IMAX has signed contracts for more than 180 IMAX digital projection systems, with 18 currently in operation and a total of 45-50 scheduled to be in operation by year end.

Orbita Max Shoots Motion Capture for The Magic Tale Animated Characters

October 10, 2008--Jordi Llompart, director of The Magic Tale, and the animation and visual effects team from Entropy are shooting the motion capture of the film’s characters, which are currently being modeled. Five actors will play the magical characters of the lion, the caracal, the winged horse, the flower that interacts with the main character and the spirit of the fire (a magical creature created completely in CGI).

October 7,2008--IMAX Corporation and Cineplexx Kinobetriebe Gmbh, the largest exhibitor in Austria, today announced a joint-venture agreement to install three IMAX theaters in Austria. The deal marks IMAX's first joint venture in Europe and continues the company's global expansion with its new digital projection system. To date, IMAX has signed contracts for more than 180 IMAX digital projection systems, with 18 currently in operation and a total of 45-50 scheduled to be in operation by year end.

Reuben H. Fleet IMAX Dome Theater Undergoing Extensive Renovations

October 3, 2008--The Reuben H. Fleet Science Center IMAX Dome Theatre will be closed September 4 through mid-December 2008 for extensive renovations. Built in 1973, it was world’s first IMAX dome theater and the first IMAX theater in the U.S. Phase one of the technological makeover will include the first Nanoseam seamless screen on an IMAX dome, which allows for sharper colors and brighter, higher-contrast images; a 16,000-watt digital surround sound system; new seating and carpeting; upgrades to the IMAX projector and numerous other improvements. The theater renovation is part of a $20 million capital campaign.

Kung Fu Panda Sequel Planned for 2011 Will Include Release in IMAX 3D

October 1, 2008--DreamWorks Animation SKG Inc. today announced that the sequel to its worldwide hit Kung Fu Panda is expected in theaters on June 3, 2011. The company also anticipates releasing the film into IMAX theaters worldwide. The sequel to Kung Fu Panda, like all DreamWorks Animation feature films starting in 2009, will be produced in stereoscopic 3D technology.

IMAX Appoints Julian Stanford to General Manager, Theatre Development-Europe, Middle East and Africa

October 1, 2008--IMAX Corporation today announced the appointment of Julian Stanford to General Manager, Theatre Development-Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA). Based in London, Mr. Stanford will be responsible for accelerating IMAX's growth throughout EMEA and increasing IMAX's presence as the premiere venue to experience Hollywood's biggest films. There are currently 55 IMAX theaters open in EMEA, and 15 additional IMAX theaters are scheduled to be open in the region by the end of 2011. Mr. Stanford will report directly to Larry O'Reilly, Executive Vice President, Theatre Development.

Select Scenes of Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen to be Shot with IMAX Cameras

September 30, 2008--IMAX Corporation, DreamWorks Pictures and Paramount Pictures today announced that director Michael Bay will shoot key sequences of Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen with IMAX cameras. Bay will integrate the IMAX footage with state-of-the-art CGI sequel to last year's box office hit Transformers. As previously announced, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen will be released to IMAX theaters simultaneously with the movie's wide release on June 26, 2009.

IMAX Announces Opening Box Office Results for Eagle Eye

September 29, 2008--IMAX Corporation announced today that Eagle Eye: The IMAX Experience grossed approximately $1.6 million of the film's $29.1 million total--nearly six percent of the overall domestic box office--on just 84 IMAX screens, marking IMAX's largest September or October opening for a Hollywood release. The 84 IMAX theaters included 14 new joint-venture (JV) IMAX digital theaters. The 14 theaters performed well, delivering per screen averages that were above the overall IMAX network average.

Moody Gardens Statement Regarding Damage Sustained During Hurricane Ike

Detroit Science Center Celebrates Grand Reopening of Its Chrysler IMAX Dome Theatre

September 24, 2008--The Chrysler Foundation and Detroit Science Center celebrated the grand reopening of the newly renamed and renovated Chrysler IMAX Dome Theatre on Saturday, September 20. The renovation includes a new Chrysler IMAX Dome Theatre entry sign; an LED cove lighting system to provide increased illumination, dramatic pre-show special effects and significant energy savings. Also, a new rear projection booth was installed to increase stage lighting and staging for a new video projector while replacement carpeting was incorporated in the front and rear lobbies, among other additions.
