An Open Letter from Christian Scheidegger

Just recently, MacGillivray Freeman Films and IMAX Corporation announced a new alliance. The official announcement at the GSCA conference in Austin, Texas, created lively discussions amongst theatres, producers and distributors. At this moment, a lot of details, conditions and consequences of this collaboration are still unknown. This was the reason for me to write an open letter to the giant screen industry network.

Where do you start when evaluating a film project? GSCA's Lifelong Learning Committee would like to hear from you.

The question is, where do you start when evaluating a film project? Like my personal experience, perhaps listening to others is a good place. And that is what we aim for in the Lifelong Learning Committee session, The Big E’s: Examining Evaluation and Education in Giant Screen Films. The goal of this session is to provide a place to not only hear experts in production and evaluation, but to interact in a group discussion on evaluation and education in giant screen films. So, to follow my own advice, the Lifelong Learning Committee would like to listen to you. What do you want out of this session?

Theaters are excited to become active partners in the industry and learn how to make their theaters more successful. Marketing, film selection, and film/exhibit pairings are all areas where theaters are looking for direction.

GSCA Asia Film Expo Day 2

January 12, 2011--Today’s schedule was all about film screenings, with three on the flat screen at the IMAX Theater in Wanda Cinemas and two on the dome at the Dongguan Science and Technology Museum (DGSTM). Signs announcing the GSCA Asia Film Expo started showing up on the side of the road well before we arrived at the Wanda Cinemas, and huge signs and banners hung throughout the outdoor mall. Media is covering this event every step of the way, with photographers and video cameras documenting every arrival and session. Sometimes we really do feel like rock stars here.

However, for the past several years I have looked forward to attending the GSCA Conference with the added bonus of participating in the GSCA Mentor Program as a mentor. This is a very rewarding program that can be mutually beneficial on a personal and business level for both the mentor and the mentee.
