September 26, 2011--The Gulf Coast Exploreum Science Center is pleased to announce the appointment of Gretchen Faust Jaspering as its Executive Director, effective October 10, 2011. Ms. Jaspering brings over 25 years of experience in science center management, IMAX theaters, marketing and public relations, and organizational development to the Exploreum.
Ms. Jaspering served from 2005-2010 as President of the Giant Screen Cinema Association (GSCA), the international association whose purpose is to advance the business of producing and presenting giant screen experiences. GSCA boasts membership of more than 250 organizations in nearly 30 countries engaged in the production, distribution, and exhibition of giant screen film experiences. Prior to joining GSCA, Ms. Jaspering was the Vice President of Sales and Marketing at the Saint Louis Science Center from 1999-2005. Most recently she has consulted with the Foundry Art Centre, creating its development program, and worked with various nonprofit organizations in addressing the challenges of how and when to most effectively use social media as a component in their overall marketing strategy.
“We are very happy to welcome Gretchen Jaspering to the Gulf Coast Exploreum,” said Ronald Snider, Chairman of the Exploreum Board. “Her breadth of experience in science centers, in community relations, and in addressing the technological challenges ahead for IMAX will add tremendous value to the Exploreum.” Ms. Jaspering was selected following a search led by Russ Ford, chair of the Board’s Executive Director Search Committee.
“I am excited and honored to join the Gulf Coast Exploreum and the entire Exploreum family at this stage in the organization’s history,” said Ms. Jaspering. “I am energized by what has been accomplished at the Exploreum and look forward to delivering the highest levels of science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) training and workforce development to the Gulf Coast region and throughout Alabama.“
The national Executive Director search process was guided by Arts Consulting Group (www.artsconsulting.com) the leading provider of hands-on interim management, executive search, fundraising and marketing consulting, program and facilities planning, and organizational development services for the arts and culture industry.
“Congratulations to the Board, staff, and Search Committee for their tremendous work in the Executive Director search process,” stated ACG President Bruce Thibodeau. “Their objectivity, thoroughness, and commitment to the Exploreum’s future are a testament to the quality of the organization, its people, and its programs.”
