February 18, 2011--The Giant Screen Cinema Association (GSCA) today announced the results of the 2011 board of directors election. Eleven new directors will begin serving their two-year terms at the upcoming GSCA Film Expo being held in Los Angeles, CA, on March 8-9.
February 17, 2011--Boeing on Wednesday made a surprise donation of $26,000 to Washington State Leadership & Assistance for Science Education Reform (LASER). Boeing's donation comes from proceeds from its sponsorship of the IMAX film Legends of Flight. The presentation took place during the monthly executive board meeting at the Pacific Science Center in Seattle, Washington.
February 15, 2011--IMAX Corporation and DreamWorks Studios announced today that the suspense thriller, I Am Number Four, from director D.J. Caruso, will be released in the immersive IMAX format on Friday, February 18. The film will open on 228 IMAX screens domestically, simultaneous with its North American wide release. I Am Number Four will also be released to at least 96 IMAX screens internationally, with nine screens opening day-and-date. Additional international playdates are expected to be confirmed in the coming days.
February 10, 2011--IMAX Corporation and Jiangsu Eudemonia Blue Ocean Cinema Development Co., Ltd. ("Blue Ocean") today announced an agreement to install four new digital IMAX(R) theater systems in the People's Republic of China. Under the terms of the agreement, Blue Ocean will build an IMAX digital theater system into Suzhou Xinsu Tiandi International's Cineplex at Xinsu Plaza in August of this year. The remaining three theater systems are at new construction locations scheduled to open in early 2014: the Kunming Eudemonia Blue Ocean International Cineplex in Kunming; the Eudemonia Blue Ocean International Cineplex in Taizhou; and the Central Eudemonia Blue Ocean International Cineplex in Xuzhou. Jiangsu Province is on the country's east coast and has a population of 77 million.

February 4, 2011-- IMAX Corporation and The Walt Disney Studios have announced that TRON: Legacy, a 3D high-tech adventure about a father and son who embark on a life-and-death journey across a visually stunning cyber universe, will open in France for an exclusive four-day run in the country's five commercial IMAX® theaters prior to the nationwide release on February 9, 2011. The IMAX release will continue to play in IMAX theaters for the duration of the nationwide run in conventional theaters.
February 4, 2011--Although it isn't giant screen news, it is good news for GSCA member National Geographic Cinema Ventures. National Geographic Cinema Ventures is very proud to announce that its film Restrepo has been nominated for an Academy Award in the Documentary Feature category. Directed by Sebastian Junger (author of A Perfect Storm and War) and Tim Hetherington, award-winning photographer, the film recounts 15 months in the lives of a single Army platoon based in the Korengal Valley in Afghanistan. The film has been termed "a 90-minute deployment" and has garnered virtually unanimous praise from critics and filmgoers alike.
