April 18, 2012—IMAX Corporation and 20th Century Fox today announced that the 3D release of James Cameron's Academy Award®-winning film Titanic set an opening weekend box office record for IMAX in China. Since opening in China on Tuesday, April 10, the film has grossed an estimated $74 million in China during its opening week, of which approximately $7 million was generated in 64 IMAX® theaters across the country, for a per-screen average of approximately $109,375.

Pictures today announced that the documentary adventure To The Arctic will debut exclusively in 50 select IMAX® theaters in North America, beginning Friday, April 20. March 31, 2012—Filmmaker and National Geographic Explorer-in-Residence James Cameron descended 35,756 feet (6.77 miles/10.89 km) to reach the "Challenger Deep," the ocean's deepest point located in the Mariana Trench, in his specially designed submersible Deepsea Challenger. The attempt was part of Deepsea Challenge, a joint scientific expedition by Cameron, National Geographic and Rolex to conduct deep-ocean research and exploration. Cameron is the only individual ever to complete the dive in a solo vehicle and the first person since 1960 to reach the very bottom of the world in a manned submersible. During the dive, he conducted the first manned scientific exploration of the "Challenger Deep."
