January 31, 2012—IMAX Corporation, Marvel Studios, and The Walt Disney Studios today announced that the epic super hero adventure Marvel's The Avengers will be digitally re-mastered into the immersive IMAX® 3D format and released in IMAX® digital theaters worldwide day-and-date on May 4, 2012.

January 31, 2012—IMAX and SPI Cinemas Private Limited (SPI) have announced an agreement to install four digital IMAX® theater systems in new SPI Cinemas complexes across India. The deal brings the total number of commercial IMAX® theaters open or contracted to open in India to 13.

January 30, 2012--IMAX Corporation and Bona Film Group a leading film distributor in China, have announced that the 3D martial arts motion picture Flying Swords of Dragon Gate has generated more than $10 million at the box office in 61 digital IMAX® theatres across China since its opening Dec 15th, 2011. The film surpassed the previous record for highest-grossing Chinese-produced movie released in the IMAX format, set by Aftershock, and became the third-highest grossing IMAX DMR® title in China behind Avatar and Transformers: Dark of the Moon.

January 23, 2012—IMAX Corporation, MacGillivray Freeman Films, and Warner Bros. Pictures today announced that two-time Academy Award® winner Meryl Streep will narrate To The Arctic 3D. The film will be released exclusively to select IMAX® theaters starting April 20, 2012.

January 19, 2012—IMAX Corporation and Warner Bros. Pictures have announced that the documentary adventure Born to be Wild 3D crossed the $20 million threshold at the global box office, exclusively in IMAX® theaters. Since its release on April 8, 2011, the film has generated an impressive $15.5 million domestically and $5.5 million internationally from 297 theaters. Born to be Wild 3D is scheduled to open in additional theaters worldwide in the coming months.

January 19, 2012—D3D Cinema is pleased to announce that its latest giant screen digital 3D theater conversion is underway at the Putnam Museum in Davenport, Iowa. Twin state-of-the-art Barco 4K projectors and industry-leading Dolby Digital 3D technology will replace 15/70 film projectors as the Putnam, which plays host to the largest screen in the Quad Cities area, becomes the newest member of an ever-growing list of theaters to make the switch to digital in partnership with D3D Cinema.

January 17, 2012—IMAX Corporation today announced that it has restructured its master license agreement in South America with Giencourt Investments S.A., a member of the RACIMEC International Group (RACIMEC), in order to both play a more active role in the market and accelerate the roll-out of IMAX® theaters across South America.

January 12, 2012—IMAX Corporation and Cinemas Guzzo have announced a joint revenue sharing agreement to install four digital IMAX® theater systems throughout the greater Montreal area in Quebec. This agreement brings the total number of IMAX theaters open or contracted to open in Canada to 30.

January 9, 2012—D3D Cinema (D3D) is pleased to announce the hiring of museum industry veteran Jolie Kass as Director of Theater Sales and Business Development. Kass comes to D3D by way of Arts and Exhibitions International, where she directed the operations of AEI’s blockbuster exhibitions, most notably Tutankhamen and the Golden Age of the Pharaohs. In this role, she collaborated closely with museum colleagues around the world to achieve record-breaking attendance. Additionally, Jolie was actively involved in AEI’s pioneering of the first touring D3D exhibition theaters, which ran D3D’s film Egypt 3D: Secrets of the Mummies as the official companion film to AEI’s Tut and Cleopatra exhibits. 

January 4, 2012—Just as the crippled Russian satellite, Phobos-Grunt, threatens to fall from our sky, the film Space Junk 3D will open in IMAX® and other giant screen theaters in both 2D and 3D, beginning January 13th. The movie is the first to explore the exponentially expanding ring of manmade debris that threatens the safety of our planet's orbits.
