Detroit Science Center Celebrates Grand Reopening of Its Chrysler IMAX Dome Theatre

September 24, 2008--The Chrysler Foundation and Detroit Science Center celebrated the grand reopening of the newly renamed and renovated Chrysler IMAX Dome Theatre on Saturday, September 20. The renovation includes a new Chrysler IMAX Dome Theatre entry sign; an LED cove lighting system to provide increased illumination, dramatic pre-show special effects and significant energy savings. Also, a new rear projection booth was installed to increase stage lighting and staging for a new video projector while replacement carpeting was incorporated in the front and rear lobbies, among other additions.

3D Entertainment's Dolphins and Whales 3D Has Its One Millionth Viewer

August 26, 2008--3D Entertainment Distribution is pleased to announce that this past weekend Dolphins and Whales 3D: Tribes of the Ocean drew in its one millionth viewer worldwide since its release just six months ago. The film, presented by Jean-Michel Cousteau and narrated by Daryl Hannah, has grossed USD $8.3 million in box office revenues worldwide as of August 24, 2008, including USD $4.3 million garnered domestically at 15 IMAX theaters since its U.S. launch on February 15.

August 21, 2008--MacGillivray Freeman Films has signed a worldwide distribution agreement with Caméra Lucida and La Géode for the release of Van Gogh: Brush With Genius, a 40-minute giant screen film about the life and paintings of Vincent van Gogh. Filmed entirely in 15/70mm in France and the Netherlands, Van Gogh captures the breathtaking landscapes and extraordinary colors of the painter’s most famous works, seen for the first time with the stunning visual effects of the giant screen film medium. The film is slated for worldwide release on February 9, 2009.

IMAX Adds DMR Releases to Its 2008 and 2009 Slates

August 7, 2008—IMAX Corporation and DreamWorks Pictures/Paramount will release Eagle Eye: The IMAX Experience on September 26th. Following this action thriller, as previously announced, IMAX will partner with DreamWorks Animation to release Madagascar 2: The IMAX Experience on November 7, for a two-week run followed by Warner Bros. Pictures' Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince: An IMAX 3D Experience on November 21. Looking to 2009, IMAX and Warner Bros. Pictures will release the film adaptation of the graphic novel Watchmen, directed by Zack Snyder, on March 6. In addition, the company has reached agreement on material terms to release IMAX versions of Night at the Museum 2: Battle of the Smithsonian (20th Century Fox, May 22, 2009) and Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (DreamWorks Pictures/Paramount, June 26, 2009).

Renovated Fort Worth Omnitheater Reopens Saturday, August 9

August 5, 2008--Since last September, the domed IMAX screen of the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History’s 25-year-old Omni Theater has been dark as crews made major renovations to the theater and constructed a link between the theater and the main portion of the new facility. In August, the theater will return to action, offering new guest amenities while marking a major step in the construction of the Museum’s new facility.

The Dark Knight Posts Record-Breaking Second Weekend Results in IMAX Theaters

July 28, 2008--IMAX Corporation and Warner Bros. Pictures today announced that The Dark Knight: The IMAX Experience continued its unprecedented box office performance with the highest-grossing second weekend in IMAX history. The IMAX release grossed $4.6 million on 94 domestic IMAX screens, from Friday July 25 through Sunday July 27, bringing the film's domestic total to $16.3 million. The film is expected to cross the $20 million milestone today.
