October 9, 2014—Coming soon, the theatre near you might well have its screen illuminated by lasers. This new technology is set to revolutionize the way we experience 3D films on the big screen, solving many of the problems that some believe are holding back audiences from fully embracing them. Kitchener’s Christie Digital, along with Mississauga-based IMAX and the Belgian company Barco are the leaders in pushing for a laser-lit future at the movies. Christie’s first laser projectors are rolling out in South Korea, China and the U.S. beginning this fall, and are expected in new or refurbished Canadian cinemas next year.
