The GSCA International Conference and Trade Show is an invaluable event
for networking, sharing best practices, screening films, learning from
professional development sessions, and meeting with distributors, vendors, and
suppliers. But we know that travel and training budgets are tight, so no matter
how essential it is to attend the conference, you may need to justify the
expense to your manager.
Strategic Benefits to Highlight When Getting Approval to
Focus on what you will
bring back to the organization as return for the investment
Theaters, you’ll come back with ideas for marketing, programming, and
education, as well as updates on the latest industry technology.
Producers, distributors, manufacturers, and suppliers, you’ll have the
chance to shop your films, products, and services to prospective buyers.
Take advantage of early registration
and specials available only to members
Register by the early deadline (July 12!) and save $200. Also, GSCA is offering members a
free registration to first-time attendees who attend with another delegate
from their organization. If this is your first GSCA conference, make sure
you take advantage of this offer on the registration form.
Share what you
learned with others at your organization
Offer to prepare a short presentation and Q&A to your
colleagues to share what you learned. That way, others in your
organization benefit from your attendance, too. Share the printed program
and speaker handouts. GSCA provides the film descriptions as a Word
document so you can copy/paste them into a presentation or report.
Professional development sessions are recorded and available (with a
member login) after the conference, so share those links with others in
your organization. Member organizations can have as many logins for
staff as needed, so contact GSCA if anyone in your organization needs
Nothing is more
effective than face-to-face networking
The benefits of networking and meeting face-to-to face cannot be
overstated. It’s one thing to talk on the phone or via e-mail. It’s entirely
different meeting in person. The best conversations, idea exchanges, and
business deals happen when you’re sitting next to someone during a meal,
in the theater lobby between film screenings, during the trade show, or in
the hotel lobby after a day of screenings and sessions. Conference survey
results tell us that networking, meeting with colleagues, and sharing
ideas are the most important benefits of attending a GSCA conference.
Be an industry leader
The conference is an opportunity to help shape the industry's future and
your organization's role in it. It’s your chance to participate and make a
difference in the industry. Join a GSCA committee, attend the member meeting, make your voice and your organization's needs heard. It's people like you who help ensure the success of the giant screen industry.
Victoria and Vancouver are cities rich with culture, museums, and
galleries. Take time to visit some of them to see what other institutions
are doing successfully: Royal BC Museum, Science World BC, Vancouver Aquarium, BC Aviation Museum, Maritime Museum of BC, Victoria Butterfly Gardens, Butchart Gardens, and so much more. You’ll find more information at Tourism Victoria.
