This Might Get Loud

"Sound is 50 percent of the movie going experience," says George Lucas, "and I've always believed audiences are moved and excited by what they hear in my movies at least as much as by what they see.” You will hear why in the session "This Might Get Loud." Award-winning sound designer Tim Archer introduces new and upcoming location audio recording gear and techniques, with an emphasis on recording extremely loud sounds using high SPL (sound pressure level) microphones and 32-bit float recorders. Experience a high SPL recording of jet engines and other audio highlights and find out how to capture them in the field. Session organized by the GSCA Innovations Committee for the GSCA 2022 International Conference in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Committee Co-Chairs Michael Daut, Michael Daut Productions; and Christian Fry, CVF Productions. Presenter: Tim Archer, Masters Digital. Access resource

Navigating the Complexities of the Giant Screen Postproduction Pipeline Webinar Recording

Producing a giant screen film is a complicated and intricate process that is made even more challenging, not simpler, by the variety of digital technologies in the production pipeline. In this webinar, our panel of filmmakers, postproduction experts, sound designers/mixers, and distributors will pull back the curtain on the process of preparing a giant screen film for distribution. There are many steps and a multitude of formats that filmmakers must create to accommodate wildly different projection systems that require their own specialized picture and audio files. In this session our team addresses how to provide ample budget and prepare for the massive number of deliverables to ensure your film reaches the largest number of theaters and audiences. Session organized by the GSCA Innovations Committee. Committee Co-Chairs Michael Daut, Michael Daut Productions; and Christian Fry, Pretend Entertainment. Presenters: Jonathan Bird, Oceanic Research Group; Nathan Cohen, Postproduction Supervisor; Brian Eimer, ImagesInSound; Rick Gordon, RPG Productions; David and Patricia Keighley, IMAX; Tyler Mifflin, SK Films.  Access resource
