June 27, 2018—In addition to co-distributing its highly anticipated original production Superpower Dogs with IMAX (March 2019), Cosmic Picture is proud to announce it will also distribute two additional giant screen films in 2019. In the fall of 2019, Cosmic Picture will launch Sean Casey’s Back from the Brink. Also in 2019, Cosmic Picture will debut Expedition Chesapeake, A Journey of Discovery, an immersive expedition through the stunning beauty of Chesapeake Bay, the iconic watershed which stretches thousands of miles along America’s East Coast from New York to Virginia.
June 18, 2018—Turtle Odyssey, a Definition Films production, will be narrated by Russell Crowe and released by SK Films this summer in select museums, science centers and IMAX® theaters worldwide. Turtle Odyssey tells the heartwarming story of one tiny sea turtle’s big adventure. Based in Australia, Crowe maintains a close association with Australia Zoo in the conservation and protection of sea turtles, creating a perfect synergy between the voice and messaging of this landmark film.

We sadly share
that Dieter Buchwald, German cinema innovator and longtime friend of GSCA, died on
May 6, 2018, after a long illness. He was shareholder and director of Germany’s first IMAX
theater at the Deutsches Museum in Munich; owner and director of the Discovery
Channel IMAX Theater (RODO dome and 3D flat screen) at the DaimlerChrysler property
at Potsdamer Platz, Berlin; owner
of the Cinema Filmtheater, Germany’s first installation of 2k digital
projection and 3D (Real D); and consultant of Germany’s first high-end luxury
movie theater, ASTOR Filmlounge in Berlin Kurfuerstendamm.
June 15, 2018—The Giant Screen Cinema Association (GSCA) is pleased to announce the locations and dates for its 2019 events. The GSCA 2019 Film Expo will take place in Los
Angeles on March 11-12, with the Filmmaker Symposium immediately
following on March 13. The AMC CityWalk IMAX Theatre will host. The GSCA 2019 International Conference and Trade Show will be held
on September 10-12 in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada, at the IMAX
Victoria in the Royal BC Museum. Dome Day
will follow on September 13 at Science World British Columbia in
Vancouver.
June 13, 2018—We are sad to share that Mike Sullivan, a true giant and pioneer in the industry, passed away on June 5. Sullivan orchestrated the opening of the Reuben H. Fleet Space Theater in San Diego, the first museum-operated Omnimax (IMAX Dome) theater; co-produced the earliest films; and was instrumental in bringing theaters to museums around the world.
June 12, 2018—The Trolley IMAX Experience received a tremendous reception at its world premiere from a capacity audience at Toronto’s Ontario Place Cinesphere IMAX. Exhibited as a special presentation at the Hot Docs Toronto International Documentary Film Festival on Saturday May 5th, the event attracted an enthusiastic audience of more than six hundred.
June 1, 2018—The 8th Beijing International Film Festival "Science and Technology Section" and the 8th CSTM Popular Science Film Panorama took place at the China Science and Technology Museum (CSTM) April 5 to May 6. This film festival, hosted by CSTM, was themed "Film, Making Technology More Wonderful” and was divided into five activity sections, including Popular Science Film Panorama, Science Popularization Events, Excellent Works Selection, Exhibition and Exchange, and Academic Forum. Thirty six of the latest films from 10 countries were shown during the film festival, including Oceans: Our Blue Planet, Backyard Wilderness, The Story of Earth, Hello Earth, Australia’s Great Wild North, and Planet Power.
