September 17, 2019—The Museum of Science, Boston and Cosmic Picture have announced that they have entered into an agreement to produce a film that celebrates New England and its people, exclusively for the large format dome screen at the Museum’s Mugar Omni Theater. The film, an original production expected to be released in 2021, will inspire audiences with stunning visuals and stories featuring the innovations, natural wonders, residents, landmarks, seasons, and characteristics that define New England. The feature length OMNI® film (30-40 min) will take inspiration from the short film New England Time Capsule, which delighted millions of Museum visitors for over a decade. The Museum secured funding for the film from MathWorks, a long-time champion of the Mugar Omni Theater and the Museum.

September 16, 2019—D3D Cinema has partnered with Imagination Station on the design and integration of the new KeyBank Discovery Theater, a premium giant screen venue that will offer the first laser-illuminated, large-format immersive cinema experience in the Toledo market. The theater is the anchor attraction in an 8,200-square foot, $10M addition to the science center, incorporating immersive film engagement into the science center’s hands-on lifelong learning mission. The new building and cinema—complete with gift shop and concessions—will open in summer 2020.

September 10, 2019—The Giant Screen Cinema Association (GSCA) is pleased to announce the winners of its 2019 Achievement Awards, which recognize excellence in giant screen filmmaking, marketing, and lifelong learning. The awards were announced the evening of Tuesday, September 10, at the GSCA 2019 International Conference and Trade Show in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada, during a ceremony held at the Victoria Conference Centre. IMAX Corporation, sponsor of the awards gala, presented the IMAX Maximum Image Awards during the ceremony as well.
