The OMNIMAX® Theater has dazzled millions and, this week, welcomed Jett, its nine millionth viewer.
Board Also Adopts New Strategic Plan and Committee Reorganization
December 15, 2022—The Giant Screen Cinema Association (GSCA) is pleased to announce its Board of Directors has approved a new strategic plan and elected officers and committee chairs for the coming year. These officers and committee chairs represent the 2023 Board, which was announced in November
, and their terms begin on January 1, 2023. The GSCA Board of Directors has also approved a new strategic plan, which includes a committee realignment.
December 12, 2022—The Hemisfèric, part of the cultural and scientific complex at the City of Arts and Sciences in Valencia, Spain, recently installed a Christie® CP4450-RGB pure laser cinema projector in its main theatre—the biggest of its kind in Spain, with a concave dome screen covering 900 square meters (9687 square feet) and 24 meters (79 feet) in diameter. Christie’s partner Ingevideo installed the projector.
December 6, 2022—Legend of the Enchanted Reef is now available for IMAX® and Giant Screen Theaters. Museum of Discovery and Science (MODS) in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, is the site of the IMAX® Laser premiere for the show. Legend of the Enchanted Reef will premiere on Saturday, December 17, 2022, in the MODS AutoNation® IMAX® Theater. The show is distributed by Reef Distribution.
November 16, 2022—Since the first frame of Into the Deep was projected on its six-story screen, countless visitors have embarked on cinematic voyages into space, below the Earth’s surface, back in time, and into the deepest depths of the ocean at the Tennessee Aquarium IMAX 3D Theater. Well…formerly countless. Today, the theater celebrated the arrival of its 9 millionth guest since opening its doors on May 1, 1996.
November 16, 2022—Cosm, a global tech company delivering immersive experiences for sports, entertainment, science, and education, is bringing its new immersive entertainment venue to Grandscape at The Colony in Texas. The Colony venue is designed by Dallas-based HKS. The three-level facility will be between 65,000 and 75,000 square feet, have a capacity of about 1,500 guests, and feature an 87-foot diameter LED screen. “We always knew Dallas-Fort Worth was going to house either our first or second location,” says Cosm CEO Jeb Terry. Cosm also is developing a new facility in Los Angeles.

Museum Media is headed by Berend Reijnhoudt, former Director at Omniversum, The Hague, Netherlands.

October 28, 2022—The Goodman IMAX Dome Theater at Sci-port Discovery Center in Shreveport, Louisiana, is closed for construction to replace the current IMAX film projection system to IMAX with Laser. The IMAX Dome will show major motion pictures starting in November, such as Black Panther: Wakanda Forever and Avatar: The Way of the Water, in addition to continuing to offer educational documentaries. Ancient Caves, by Oceanic Research Group and MacGillivray Freeman Films, is the first film scheduled for November 2022.
