October 23, 2023—The Museum of Science, Boston, has announced the premiere of its latest original film, The Heart of New England. Produced by Cosmic Picture exclusively for the Mugar Omni Theater and directed by Daniel Ferguson (Jerusalem, Superpower Dogs), the 45-minute IMAX® experience takes audiences on a spectacular and immersive journey across the rich and storied region of New England. The film, produced with support from Natick-based MathWorks, will premiere to the public on November 11.

October 20, 2023—Seven years after it closed, Sydney's IMAX cinema finally reopened on October 11. The original theater was demolished in 2016, 20 years after it opened in 1996. The plan was to replace the theater in three years, but the Darling Harbour project was delayed by construction issues and the COVID-19 pandemic.

October 20, 2023—After a thorough industry study and technical analysis, D3D Cinema has been selected by the Centro de Ciencias Explora (Explora Science Centre) to install a new digital 3D cinema system in a once-in-a-generation upgrade of Explora’s Giant Screen Theater. D3D will replace the almost 30-year old IMAX 15-perf/70mm film-based projector with dual fourth-generation Barco® SP4K laser projectors in a 3D configuration.

October 20, 2023—Deep Sky, the new IMAX original documentary, premiered on October 18 at the AMC Lincoln Square IMAX in New York. Directed by Oscar®-nominated filmmaker Nathaniel Kahn and narrated by Oscar®-nominated actress Michelle Williams, Deep Sky follows the high-stakes global mission to build JWST and to launch it into orbit one-million miles from Earth in an attempt to answer questions that have haunted us since the beginning of time.

October 19, 2023—The Fort Worth Museum of Science and History announces the brand new “Jane & John Justin Foundation Omni Theater.” The full-scale renovation project will provide the theater with an ADA-accessible space, a new lobby and a completely digitized 8K LED viewing experience, powered by Cosm Technology. Byrne Construction Services, the builders for the original Omni IMAX Theater, have been selected as the General Contractor for the project with Bennett Partners providing the architectural design services in support of the Omni Theater renovation.

September 20, 2023—The Giant Screen Cinema Association (GSCA) is pleased to announce the winners of its 2023 Achievement Awards, recognizing excellence in the giant screen industry. The awards were presented the evening of Tuesday, September 19, at the GSCA 2023 International Conference in Indianapolis, Indiana, during a ceremony held at the IMAX Theater at the Indiana State Museum.

September 13, 2023—The Giant Screen Cinema Association (GSCA) is excited to announce it is partnering with Morey Group to conduct extensive audience research to better understand current and potential viewers of giant screen films. The purpose of the research is to identify ways in which giant screen theaters can maximize their market potential; forecast market demand; understand consumer behavior, impressions, motivations, and barriers; track behavior and impression trends; and provide audience information that can be used to build partnerships and attract sponsors and/or investors for all GSCA members. The research will be conducted in October of this year with a full report delivered in December.

September 1, 2023—Congratulations to Alan Williams of Silverscreen Music on his nomination for Best Documentary Score for the film Serengeti at the Crystal Pine Awards International Sound and Music Festival, one of the most important sound and film music festivals in the world. A record number of 1,704 films entered the festival competition this year. The winners will be announced at the ceremony on October 14 in Samobor, Croatia.
