February 7, 2020—GSCA is pleased to announce the Innovations Session at the upcoming Film Expo, "Completing the Transition from Film to Digital with HFR and HDR." As we have seen our industry transition from film to digital in both image capture and exhibition, there are some tools that we have not yet used to our advantage in the giant screen cinema community. Among these are high frame rate (HFR) and high dynamic range (HDR).
In this demo featuring scenes from Ang Lee’s feature film Gemini Man, we will experience a number of scenes captured and displayed in 3D HFR (4K/120 fps per eye) and in HDR as exhibited on the Cinity cinema system using two RGB laser projectors manufactured by Christie Digital. Two key members of Mr. Lee’s team—Ben Gervais (technical expert) and Demetri Portelli (stereographer)—will be presenting the clips and describing the technology.
Apart from the Hollywood premiere and a few theaters in China, Gemini Man was never been shown in this format in any venue open to the public anywhere in the world. These scenes represent a glimpse into the future of our format, when we fully embrace all that digital technology has to offer.
You'll find more information about the Film Expo here, including registration, the schedule, and films to be presented.
