September 19, 2022—The Tennessee Aquarium IMAX 3D Theater was closed September 15-16 for a monumental undertaking: the replacement of its six-story tall, 89- foot-wide screen. In preparation for hosting the Giant Screen Cinema Association’s (GSCA) annual international conference at the end of September, the Aquarium partnered with the IMAX Corporation to replace the existing six-year-old screen so the theater would look its best for the international event, which draws giant-screen filmmakers, distributors, theaters, suppliers, manufacturers, and students from around the world.
April 19, 2021—The Giant Screen Cinema Association (GSCA) Event Planning Committee and Board of Directors have made a unanimous decision to hold the GSCA 2021 International Conference virtually later this year. Dates are yet to be determined but likely the virtual conference will be held in September, when the conference is traditionally held in person. While we are all eager to get together in person, it is prudent to make this decision now to allow planning to begin.
June 17, 2019—The Giant Screen Cinema Association (GSCA) is pleased to announce the locations and dates for its 2020 events. The
GSCA Film Expo will take place in Los Angeles on March 9-10, 2020. The
AMC CityWalk IMAX Theatre and Universal City Hilton will host, as they
did for the GSCA Film Expo 2019. The 2020 GSCA International Conference and Trade Show will be held in
Chicago, Illinois, on September 22-24, 2020. On September 25, GSCA will
host a symposium, which will focus on strategies for theater
sustainability and success. The Navy Pier IMAX Theatre will host
flat-screen presentations, and the Museum of Science and Industry Giant
Dome Theater will host presentations
on the dome screen.
September 11, 2018–The Giant Screen Cinema Association (GSCA) is pleased to announce Evans & Sutherland and Christie will demonstrate a technical preview of a new digital dome RGB laser system at GSCA’s Dome Day event on September 24, 2018, at McWane Science Center in Birmingham, Alabama.
