July 22, 2021—After a 14-month closure for its largest ever renovation, the Space Theatre of the Hong Kong Space Museum, which has been thrilling audiences since its inception in 1980, reopened on July 1, 2021. The major part of the renovation was the replacement of the 23-metre-diameter dome screen with a new one comprising 428 aluminum panels that are less than 1mm thick. The panels utilize the latest NanoSeam technology and offer a seamless viewing experience. The screen, together with the six new Christie Mirage 304 projectors, produce sharper and more colorful images. Other facilities of the Space Theatre, including the newly installed Sky-Skan DigitalSky–Dark Matter projection system, audio and sound equipment, the control and production studios have all been upgraded with cutting-edge technologies to provide audiences with exhilarating audiovisual experiences.
