November 16, 2018—Cincinnati Museum Center's Union Terminal $224 million restoration will be unveiled to the public this weekend, but the upgrades to the 85-year-old building won’t be coming to an end just yet. November 16, 2018—The Tech Museum of
Innovation opened the world’s first IMAX® Dome Theater featuring IMAX with
Laser on November 11. The $2.7 million renovation upgrades the 20-year-old,
four-story screen theater from 70mm film projection to a groundbreaking 4k
laser projection system. The new technology, which is tailored to the IMAX
180-degree dome environment, will enable The Tech to deliver a wide array of
digital content with crystal-clear images, vivid colors and powerful, immersive
October 17, 2018—IMAX Corp. has announced the appointment of Megan
Colligan to President, IMAX Entertainment and Executive Vice
President, IMAX Corporation. Reporting to Rich Gelfond, CEO of IMAX
Corp., Colligan's appointment will be effective February 19, 2019,
immediately following a consulting period. The Company and Greg Foster also announced that,
as has been anticipated, Foster will exit from his role as CEO, IMAX
Entertainment and Senior Executive Vice President, IMAX Corp., when
his current contract concludes at the end of the year.
July 30, 2018—The 280-seat Tech Museum of Innovation IMAX Theater in downtown San Jose, California, has been closed since the beginning of July to undergo a $2.7 million, four-month renovation that will replace its 70mm film projector with a state-of-the-art IMAX 4k laser projection system. May 2, 2018—IMAX Corporation and AMC Theatres have signed a binding letter of intent to install IMAX's new ground-breaking laser experience for commercial multiplexes in 87 of the exhibitor's highest-performing IMAX at AMC locations across the U.S. The announcement coincides with the launch of the next-generation of IMAX with Laser, IMAX's most advanced commercial projection system to date designed to transform the premium blockbuster moviegoing experience.
April 18, 2018—On Sunday, April 15, the team behind the upcoming IMAX® documentary Superpower Dogs™, an epic 3D live-action family adventure film about extraordinary real-life dogs, set the Guinness World Records title for the “Largest dog photo shoot.” The impressive record was set while filming the closing scene for the documentary in Los Angeles, bringing 108 dogs and their owners together for “Superpower your Dog Day,” a fun-filled event celebrating the power of dogs.
March 26, 2018—At the GSCA 2018 Film Expo, IMAX Corporation, Cosmic Picture and Mars Petcare announced that the IMAX documentary family adventure, Superpower Dogs™, will be released in IMAX® theatres starting spring 2019. February 21, 2018—IMAX Corporation (NYSE: IMAX) and Warner Bros. Pictures today announced that Kristen Bell (Frozen, TV's The Good Place) will narrate the latest IMAX documentary adventure Pandas, a heartwarming global story about reintroducing captive born pandas to the wild. The film will be released in select IMAX® and IMAX® 3D theatres starting April 6, 2018.
June 13, 2017—IMAX will lay off roughly 100 full-time employees as part of a company-wide effort to rein in costs, Variety reports. The layoffs will take place across nearly every division, including its finance, marketing, and entertainment arms, as well as staffers in its China joint venture. The layoffs took place on Monday and are expected to result in a one-time impairment charge of approximately $15 million related to severance packages and other costs associated with the job cuts.
