Reef Distribution Acquires BIG & Digital Content Rights, Tina Ratterman to Join Reef

February 17, 2022—Dr. Peter Popp, CEO of Reef Distribution, and Tina Ratterman, President of BIG & Digital, have joined forces to expand content, marketing, and support to fulldome and giant screen theaters worldwide. Reef Distribution has taken over distribution, including administrative, accounting, and technical support services, for the BIG & Digital catalog, which includes titles such as In Saturn’s Rings, Expedition Chesapeake: a Journey of Discovery, Star Dreaming, Whale Super Highway, and Legends of the Northern Sky. Ratterman will lead and expand worldwide distribution and marketing.

Road to Edmonton's Queen Elizabeth II Planetarium Named After Ian McLennan

March 2, 2021—One of the key figures in the planetarium community throughout the world will have a road named in his honour. The access road to the Queen Elizabeth II Planetarium, in Edmonton's Coronation Park, will be renamed Ian McLennan Way. The Queen Elizabeth II Planetarium (QEP) will be reopening in 2021. The planetarium has the distinction of being the first public planetarium in Canada, when it originally opened on September 22, 1960, and has been declared an historic site by the City of Edmonton. Planetarium Hamburg Selects Evans & Sutherland 8K Digistar 6 3D System for Theater Renovation

February 16, 2017—Planetarium Hamburg, established both as an astronomical and entertainment destination for northern Germany, is undergoing a massive refurbishment in preparation for its grand reopening on February 14th, 2017. Their 21-meter planetarium in the upper level of the historic water tower that comprises the facility will reopen with an 8K resolution Digistar 6 system with 3D stereo from Evans & Sutherland. This beautifully bright, ultra-high resolution system will extend the scope of the creative and scientific programming that can be presented, and will offer audiences the first 3D fulldome experience in Germany (and only the third Digistar 3D system in Europe).

Milwaukee Public Museum's Dome Theater and Planetarium First in the World to Debut Evans & Sutherland's Digistar 6 Technology

September 16, 2016—The Milwaukee Public Museum’s (MPM) Dome Theater and Planetarium will be the first planetarium in the world to debut Digistar 6 technology on Saturday, September 17. This ground breaking dome technology will replace the giant screen 15/70 film system, which was once the gold standard for giant screen projection.

Liberty Science Center to Convert IMAX Theater into Nation's Largest Planetarium

March 23, 2016—Liberty Science Center is pleased to announce that Jennifer Chalsty, a former high school teacher, has made a generous $5M gift to the Science Center to fund the creation of the largest planetarium in the Western Hemisphere. Her gift—the single largest gift that LSC has ever received from an individual—will provide for the conversion of the IMAX Dome Theater from film to digital, the addition of software and hardware necessary for the theater to also function as a planetarium, the replacement of the screen, and the refurbishing of the theater. The target date for opening the Jennifer Chalsty Planetarium is December 2017.
