May 26, 2023—RedShark interviews cinematographer and inventor Pawel Achtel, ACS, about the ACHTEL 9x7 Digital Cinema Camera, which was specifically designed for IMAX, giant screen, VFX, and VR cinema productions. The camera uses a 9344x7000 sensor (hence the 9x7 brand name) with true correlated double sampling to be able to resolve up to 18,688x14,000 (260 Megapixels) resolution. In the interview, Pawel shares the history of the 9x7, technical specifications, and how it's being used.
May 26, 2023—Cirque du Soleil Entertainment Group and Cosm, a leading immersive technology, media, and entertainment company, today announced a partnership to deliver a completely new way to experience Cirque du Soleil. Under the partnership, Cosm will produce and present an iconic Cirque du Soleil show at its forthcoming venues, the first of which will open in Los Angeles in spring 2024 and showcase a 26.6-meter diameter LED dome in a 65,000 total square feet facility.
May 2, 2023—Amazon Studios has acquired worldwide rights to the IMAX Original Documentary The Blue Angels. Bad Robot, Glen Powell’s Barnstorm Productions, Zipper Bros Films, and Dolphin Entertainment produced the project that chronicles a year in the cockpit with one of the most exclusive aviator teams in the world, filmed with awe-inspiring IMAX cameras.

April 23, 2023—Last week Ontario Premier Doug Ford announced that Ontario Science Centre will move to Ontario Place as an anchor tenant. The move is part of the redevelopment plan of Ontario Place as a world-class, year-round destination. The science centre’s new home will be in a custom-built, state-of-the-art facility, as well as in the preserved and upgraded iconic Cinesphere and Pod complex. Construction is expected to begin in 2025, with an opening slated for 2028. In the meantime, Ontario Science Centre remains open at the current Don Mills and Eglinton location.
April 24, 2023—Oceanic Films, HHMI Tangled Bank Studios, and SK Films announce the release of their upcoming documentary, Blue Whales: Return of the Giants 3D, the inspirational story of blue whales and their journey to recovery. Narrated by the award-winning actor Andy Serkis (Lord of the Rings, Star Wars), and scored by Academy Award- winner Steven Price (Gravity), the film is set to open in giant screen theaters and museums on May 25, 2023. The film was produced by Oceanic Films with major funding from the National Science Foundation (NSF) and is the third collaboration between SK Films and HHMI Tangled Bank Studios (Amazon Adventure and Backyard Wilderness).
April 17, 2023—The Fort Worth Museum of Science and History announces the brand new “Jane & John Justin Foundation Omni Theater.” The full-scale renovation project will provide the theater with an ADA-accessible space, a new lobby and a completely digitized 8K LED viewing experience, powered by Cosm Technology. The Omni Theater will be the world’s first LED digital dome of its size in a museum.

March 29, 2023—MacGillivray Freeman Films is pleased to announce it has obtained the theatrical distribution rights for IMAX and giant screen theatres for the stunning new film Lasting Impressions, an immersive 3D art and music experience from producers Princeton Entertainment Group in association with Northern Gateway Films. The film will be available starting this Summer 2023 in both 2D and 3D formats.
