March 7, 2018—BBC Earth, OceanX Media and Giant Screen Films are pleased to announce that Oceans: Our Blue Planet will be narrated by Academy Award winning actress Kate Winslet. Famous for her dozens of iconic and memorable performances throughout her career, she is a seven-time Oscar nominee and recipient of numerous accolades, including an Emmy Award, Grammy Award, three BAFTAs, four Golden Globes and three Screen Actors Guild Awards.
“We are thrilled that Kate came on board for this film. She was a natural fit, with her previous involvement in natural history documentaries,” said Neil Nightingale, Creative Director for BBC Earth. “She adds a genuinely warm and recognizable voice to this very special—and timely—film.”
Oceans: Our Blue Planet takes audiences on a global odyssey into the largest and least explored habitat on earth. From the coastal shallows to deeper, more mysterious worlds, Oceans uncovers spectacular stories of life and survival beneath the waves. The film is supported by Microsoft, providing educational supplements and scholastic tools tailored to the conservation message and science in the documentary.
“I had the good fortune of catching a sneak peek of Oceans: Our Blue Planet last week during the BBC’s dome mastering session—utilizing MSI’s Laser CineDome system—and the film looks and sounds amazing,” said Gil Perez, Director of Film and Guest Operations, Museum of Science and Industry, Chicago. “BBC has really raised the bar with this film. I’ve said it before and will say it again… Oceans is possibly the best ocean film yet in the giant screen medium. I feel even more strongly about saying this having now seen it on our dome. It looks stunning. And Kate Winslet’s narration is outstanding as well.”
The trailer, key art, press materials and marketing kit for Oceans: Our Blue Planet are available through the film’s resource portal. Watch the trailer here.
Oceans will premiere March 12 at the Giant Screen Cinema Association Film Expo at the Pacific Science Center in Seattle. Following the screening, BBC Earth and Giant Screen Films will be sponsoring a reception on behalf of the film at the Ackerley Family Exhibit Gallery.
Oceans: Our Blue Planet is available in all formats: 2D & 3D, DCI-compliant Digital, IMAX Digital, IMAX Laser, Dome-customized 15/70, D3D Laser CineDome, Fulldome Digital.
Oceans: Our Blue Planet is a BBC Earth and OceanX Media co-production.
