October 10, 2016—D3D Cinema (D3D) and Carnegie Science Center (CSC) in Pittsburgh are pleased to announce that D3D will install a premium laser-illuminated giant-screen cinema system in Fall 2017 as part of the CSC’s expansion and renovation project. The project also includes a new Science Pavilion, which will house STEM learning labs, a Special Exhibitions Gallery for large-scale travelling exhibitions, a conference and event space with unparalleled views of Pittsburgh’s Point, and outdoor learning spaces on the riverfront.
The cinema system has been designed around two industry-leading Christie® laser-illuminated 4K 3D projectors, which will dazzle viewers on the largest screen in Pittsburgh with bright, ultra-sharp images and incredibly vivid colors, and a premium Dolby Atmos® multichannel surround sound system, which uses a huge array of front, back, side and overhead speakers that will completely immerse CSC’s audiences in the action.
“We undertook an extensive research process in the development phase of this project to ensure we’d end up with a theater experience that was second to none,” said Ann Metzger, Co-Director of Carnegie Science Center. “We’re confident that D3D’s system solution will amaze our guests, and help us deliver on our mission to delight, educate and inspire.”
In addition to a continued focus on the awe-inspiring mission-centric documentaries that the CSC theater has become known for over the past twenty-five years, the D3D system will provide extensive new capabilities, and with them, significant opportunities to offer compelling new programming. “We’ll be able to bring the world—and beyond—to our guests,” said Ron Baillie, Co-Director of Carnegie Science Center, “From feature films to live cultural events or multimedia lectures, we intend to deliver a broad range of dynamic content in the theater. The possibility of connecting our guests real-time with astronauts on the International Space Station or with scientists working in the field is very exciting.”
