Biography
William McQiu has more than 40 years of experience in government, business, international marketing, and the giant screen film industry.
After earning a Bachelor of Engineering degree from Beijing University of Technology, William began his career in 1984 with the Beijing Municipal Communication Bureau and other government and industry organizations in Beijing, China.
He immigrated to New Zealand in 1991 and joined J P International Ltd. as Marketing Manager in 1992. In 1999, he became Managing Director of NZ Pacific Resource Group Ltd.
Since 2005, William has served as Managing Director of NZPR Group Ltd., and since 2008, he has served as President of ST Giant Films Ltd.
William has been a member of the Giant Screen Cinema Association since 2010 and has been actively involved in efforts to expand opportunities for giant screen films and the GSCA community in China and the broader Asian market.
Statement of Purpose
I have been a member of GSCA since 2010 and have witnessed significant changes throughout our industry. I believe this is an important and challenging time for the giant screen community—and an opportunity for GSCA to expand its international influence. One of the greatest opportunities is in Asia, particularly China and surrounding countries.
In May 2026, I worked with Shanghai Science and Technology Museum Director Mr. Ni and GSCA’s Leadership Committee to organize the China Film Expo at the museum’s new CINITY LED giant screen theater. The event featured nine films produced by GSCA members, professional development exchanges, and a CINITY technology tour in Beijing. This gave the GSCA delegation firsthand experience with current LED giant screen theater technology.
I have also successfully obtained an open import and distribution license, or Dragon Label, for the giant screen film Great Bear Rainforest. This allows museums, science centers, and theaters in China to exhibit the film for two years without requiring a separate import permit for each individual theater as long as they are member of any cinema lines. The film opened at CINITY theaters on September 5, with the expectation that it will have the opportunity to reach CINITY’s network of approximately 280 premium theaters.
I hope this achievement will help open the Chinese market to more high-quality films from GSCA members.
If elected to the GSCA Board of Directors, I would like to explore, with Board approval, the creation of a GSCA liaison office in Beijing to strengthen GSCA’s presence in China and surrounding countries. The liaison effort could:
- Build stronger relationships with industry organizations throughout the region.
- Share GSCA expertise and promote the quality of GSCA member films.
- Create opportunities for future giant screen film expos and professional exchanges.
- Help GSCA members develop greater access to the Chinese and Asian markets.
- Increase awareness of GSCA and grow membership throughout the region.
As a Board member, I would bring my experience, relationships, and knowledge of the Asian market to help GSCA expand its international reach and create new opportunities for its members.
