Secrets of Great Salt Lake, Narrated by Mike Rowe Coming Fall 2025

Toronto, ON — [September 10th, 2025] — SK Films, the Max McGraw Wildlife Foundation, Mission Partners Entertainment Group and Dorsey Pictures are proud to share the trailer for its upcoming release of Secrets of Great Salt Lake, an awe-inspiring IMAX®/Giant Screen 3D documentary narrated by Emmy® Award-winner Mike Rowe. Opening in giant screen theaters, museums, and science centers in October, the film invites audiences into the heart of one of the world’s most unique and fragile ecosystems, Utah’s Great Salt Lake. From award-winning director Tyler Mifflin, Secrets of Great Salt Lake is an entertaining and uplifting story of how water connects all life on Earth. Audiences will journey back in time to when mammoths, camels, and saber-toothed cats roamed the shores of ancient Lake Bonneville, and witness the dramatic formation of Great Salt Lake, born from one of the largest floods in history.

With sweeping giant screen cinematography, the film immerses audiences in the wonders of nature, from the snowy peaks of the Wasatch Range, where mountain lions raise their cubs and Olympic skiers carve the “Greatest Snow on Earth,” to the vast wildlife refuges, living networks of aspen groves and wetlands below, where millions of migrating birds gather and grebes dance on water. The story also explores the fascinating biology of the of the largest saltwater lake in the western hemisphere that is home to unusual creatures adapted to its extreme environment, including over 17 trillion brine shrimp!

“It’s challenging to narrate a film this captivating”, said Mike Rowe, who lent his familiar voice to the project “There was a large monitor in the recording studio that played the film as I narrated it. The images on the screen were so breathtaking, so beautiful, I couldn’t keep my eyes on the script. The footage is that stunning.”

“Great Salt Lake reminds us that water is life, and that every ecosystem it sustains is part of a larger story we all share. No matter where we live, protecting water means protecting our future. The mission of this film is to inspire people to see the beauty and resilience of nature — and to believe in our ability to care for our planet.” said director Tyler Mifflin.

The Secrets of Great Salt Lake trailer release kicks off an international marketing campaign that will be accompanied by a global educational and outreach campaign designed to engage students, families, and communities with resources that will deepen their understanding of water, ecosystems, and conservation.

More than a cinematic spectacle, Secrets of Great Salt Lake is both a call to wonder and a call to action. Great Salt Lake is rapidly disappearing and in 2022 its water levels reached historic new lows, threatening both the Lake’s biology and the air quality for more than 2.5 million people in the Salt Lake City area from the dust kicked up from the exposed lakebed.By showcasing the Lake’s extraordinary wildlife, landscapes, and people who are dedicated to saving it, the film highlights the importance of protecting fragile ecosystems and our shared water resources everywhere.

Presented in breathtaking IMAX® 3D, this immersive journey invites audiences of all ages to experience the magic of water in motion — and to leave the theater inspired to safeguard the natural world we all depend on.

The film will be distributed worldwide by SK Films.
