GSCA Names Mike Lutz Recipient of the 2026 Outstanding Achievement Award

The Giant Screen Cinema Association (GSCA) is proud to announce that Mike Lutz, Lutz Strategies, has been selected as the recipient of the 2026 GSCA Outstanding Achievement Award, recognizing his exceptional leadership, enduring service, and lasting contributions to the giant screen industry. A 40-year veteran of giant screen cinema, immersive technology, and cultural attractions, Lutz has helped shape the field through senior leadership roles at IMAX Corporation, Evans & Sutherland/Spitz/Cosm, MacGillivray Freeman Films, and Laser Fantasy International, while also dedicating 16 years of service to the GSCA Board of Directors.

The GSCA Outstanding Achievement Award honors individuals whose long-term contributions have significantly advanced the giant screen industry, strengthened the association, and inspired peers across the field. Lutz’s selection was approved by the GSCA Executive Committee, and the award will be presented during the GSCA Achievement Awards ceremony at the 2026 GSCA International Conference Thursday, May 21, in Los Angeles, CA.

Lutz is widely recognized as a strategic leader, trusted advisor, and passionate advocate for the giant screen experience. His career reflects a rare combination of vision, integrity, and sustained impact. He has worked with science centers, natural history museums, and other cultural attractions worldwide, Today, through Lutz Strategies, he continues to help shape the future of immersive experiences through consulting work with organizations including Cosmosphere, Cosmic Picture, and Waypoint Cinema.

A longtime champion of dome theaters, Lutz has consistently advocated for their continued relevance and evolution in the digital era and helped build connections between the giant screen, planetarium, and fulldome communities. He also coined the phrase, “There’s No Place Like Dome,” a fitting reflection of both his affection for the format and his belief in its enduring value.

His impact on GSCA has been equally significant. Over 16 years on the Board of Directors, Lutz has served on the Executive Committee; chaired the Member Services, Professional Development, and Industry Development Committees; and currently serves as founding co-chair of the Industry Leadership Committee. Colleagues credit him with helping launch or shape many of the association’s most important efforts, including the Marketing Task Force, the Certified Giant Screen and Bigger, Bolder, Better programs, the CEO Strike Force, the Audience Research Study, and Lifelong Learning Success Stories. According to those who have worked alongside him, Mike has been a first responder for the Association for years, always asking where he can be of greatest help and consistently putting in the hard work needed to move GSCA and the industry forward.

“Mike has given tireless service to GSCA and to the giant screen industry over many years,” said Diane Carlson, former GSCA Board member. “He has served in countless leadership roles, helped drive important initiatives for the association, and has been a passionate advocate for dome theaters. He is also a generous mentor and initiated the mentor program in 1997.”

He brings a rare combination of strategic vision, technical understanding, and generosity as a collaborator and mentor. His leadership has helped strengthen the giant screen ecosystem during times of change and growth.”
