August 21, 2016—Giant Screen Films and BBC Earth are pleased to announce that Earthflight, a coproduction of John Downer Productions and BBC Earth, will soar into theaters worldwide this September. Earthflight is a totally immersive experience, taking the audience on an incredible flight across the world on the wings of birds. Revolutionary aerial techniques and state-of-the-art 3D cameras deliver the reality of flight as we join a variety of different avian species on their seasonal journeys. The film marks the fourth giant screen release by BBC and GSF, and garnered very high marks at its industry premiere at the GSF Film Forum in June. The Earthflight trailer and poster were revealed this week and are available for download by preleasing theaters.

Earthflight is as much a film about the sensation of flying as it is about the remarkable behavior and migrations of birds. As such it is perfectly suited to giant screen and 3D cinemas, the ultimate medium for soaring aerials and spectacular POV immersion,” said Neil Nightingale, Executive Producer of Earthflight and Creative Director for BBC Earth. “As you fly over some of the most stunning landscapes and landmarks the planet has to offer, you actually feel as though you are up amongst the clouds with the birds. It’s a sensation that humans as land dwellers have always yearned to experience, and through the power of new cinema technology it’s now accessible to all.”

“We’re very excited about Earthflight and the industry is too,” said Don Kempf, CEO of Giant Screen Films. “In many ways, our theater partners really helped to shape this film at our Forum workshops over the past three years, from early rough-cut screenings through the post-production process and final cut. The result is a polished film with a great story – tailor-made for the giant screen. It was no surprise when everyone was buzzing about it at our Forum event in June. I think the film is going to be a great success.”

Narrated by Academy Award®-winning actress Cate Blanchett (The Aviator, Blue Jasmine) Earthflight is available in all digital formats. Leases are available now.
