July 18, 2014—IMAX Corporation and Museum of Discovery and Science, Inc., in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., today announced an agreement to install IMAX’s next-generation digital laser projection system at the Museum’s AutoNation IMAX® Theater. The new technology will enable the Museum to deliver a wider array of digital content and further enhance The IMAX Experience® for its visitors.

“We look forward to embarking on a new and exciting chapter of movie-going with IMAX’s laser technology, which we believe is a major technological advancement in giant screen film experiences,” said Kim Cavendish, President/CEO of Museum of Discovery and Science, Fort Lauderdale. “While our AutoNation IMAX® Theater has thrilled countless guests over the years with awe-inspiring documentaries on our giant screen, IMAX’s laser solution will offer an even more immersive and visceral experience, allowing us to deliver more IMAX documentaries and Hollywood blockbusters. This is truly a game-changing innovation for our visitor experience.”

“Leading museums and science centers such as the Smithsonian, the Science Museum of Minnesota, and the Pacific Science Center in Seattle have committed to our next-generation laser projection technology, and today we are delighted to add the Museum of Science and Discovery to this distinguished list,” said Larry O’Reilly, President, Worldwide Sales, IMAX Corporation. “As the largest R&D initiative in IMAX history, the development of our laser technology underscores our unwavering commitment to our institutional clients with the most immersive large-format IMAX experience ever and more programming possibilities to support their mission of lifelong learning.”

Under the terms of the agreement the Museum of Discovery and Science will install IMAX's next-generation laser projection system, which is expected to set a new benchmark as the industry’s premium entertainment experience. The system incorporates the laser digital intellectual property IMAX exclusively licensed from Eastman Kodak and Barco's unique laser innovations. It will enable IMAX’s largest screens to deliver the highest-quality digital content available with greater brightness and clarity, a wider color gamut and deeper blacks and in the original immersive IMAX film 1.43:1 aspect ratio.
