Specifications and Deadlines for the GSCA 2022 Film Award Categories

If you have submitted your film for awards consideration, we request the following materials so we can include your film on the ballot and in the awards presentation.

Important Deadlines

  • June 13: Film award submission forms due
  • June 27: Film files due for virtual screening on Filmocracy
  • June 27: Materials for ballot due
  • July 6-20: Films available virtually to voters for awards consideration
  • July 6: Ballot sent to member key contacts
  • July 20: Award ballots due
  • July 20: Materials for awards ceremony due from distributors

Filmocracy File Due June 27

Films submitted for 2022 Awards consideration have the option to be available on Filmocracy to allow voters the opportunity to view the films before casting their ballot. Films will be due to the GSCA on June 27 and available on Filmocracy for voters to review from July 6-20.

Filmocracy File Format

  • Encoded in h.264 in a .MP4 or .MOV wrapper
  • All films must be 16:9 or 1.9:1, or 4:3 aspect ratio
  • Target bitrate 16Mbps for HD 1080p (1920×1080) or 2k (2048×1080)
  • Frame rate: 24fps
  • Audio: Stereo, AAC, 320kbit/s, 48kH

Subtitles (optional)

  • WebVTT files for on-demand streaming
  • Burnt directly onto the film file for live streaming

Delivery

  • Files should be sent to Tammy Barrett using the file-sharing service of your choice, or uploaded to GSCA’s Dropbox. Please notify Tammy by email at tammy@giantscreencinema.com when you share the file so we can make sure it was delivered and the file is acceptable.
  • GSCA will upload all film content to Filmocracy.

All materials listed below are due to GSCA by June 27

1. Link to Trailer or Film Scenes to Include on the Ballot

  • You may choose to send a link to the film’s trailer or scenes from the film to include on the ballot. The trailer/scenes provided should not exceed 3 minutes total.
  • You may send different links for specific categories if you would like to highlight a segment of the film that best represents that awards category.
  • If you are sending different links for different categories, please specify the award category for each link.

2. Key Art and Film Title Graphic File

  • Key art and the graphic treatment of the film title should be provided as high-resolution (300dpi and higher) PDF or JPEG files.

3. Film Credits

  • The credits you included on your submission form will be used on the ballot and during the awards ceremony to recognize the people responsible for those aspects of the film. If there are additional credits you would like us to use, please provide them in a Microsoft Word document with correct punctuation and spelling.

Video Footage for Awards Ceremony Due July 20

Please provide a trailer, which will be edited into a montage of all the nominated films that will be shown during the awards ceremony. Please provide it in one of the following formats:

  • Non-compressed QuickTime High Definition 720×1280 ­ 1920×1080.
  • Non-compressed AVI High Definition 720×1280 ­ 1920 x1080.
  • QuickTime h264 High Quality setting high bit rate High Definition 720×1280 ­ 1929×1080.
  • Please, no high frame rate footage
  • If your film does not have a video trailer in one of the formats listed above, please contact Kelly Germain at kelly@giantscreencinema.com so we can discuss alternatives with the video editor.

Marketing and Education Recognition Due July 20

There will be no marketing and education awards this year. Because we would still like to celebrate the industry, each distributor can recognize one theater that has done great work. These are not “awards” but rather recognition that will be included in the awards ceremony. Distributors will submit a video up to one minute explaining who they are recognizing and why. The deadline for these submissions is July 20 and can be emailed to tammy@giantscreencinema.com.

If possible, please provide videos in one of the following formats:

  • Non-compressed QuickTime High Definition 720×1280 ­ 1920×1080.
  • Non-compressed AVI High Definition 720×1280 ­ 1920 x1080.
  • QuickTime h264 High Quality setting high bit rate High Definition 720×1280 ­ 1929×1080.
  • Please, no high frame rate footage
  • If recording video on a mobile device, please record horizontally, not vertically.
