July 23, 2021—Cosm, a global experiential media and
immersive technology company, celebrates the grand opening of the
420,000-square foot Shanghai Astronomy Museum. The expertise of Cosm

July 22, 2021—After a 14-month closure for its largest ever renovation, the Space Theatre of the Hong Kong Space Museum, which has been thrilling audiences since its inception in 1980, reopened on July 1, 2021. The major part of the renovation was the replacement of the 23-metre-diameter dome screen with a new one comprising 428 aluminum panels that are less than 1mm thick. The panels utilize the latest NanoSeam technology and offer a seamless viewing experience. The screen, together with the six new Christie Mirage 304 projectors, produce sharper and more colorful images. Other facilities of the Space Theatre, including the newly installed Sky-Skan DigitalSky–Dark Matter projection system, audio and sound equipment, the control and production studios have all been upgraded with cutting-edge technologies to provide audiences with exhilarating audiovisual experiences.
July 12, 2021—Achtel Pty Limited, a digital cinema equipment
maker, and XM2 Pursuit, specialists of aerial and ground-based camera
platforms, announced this week that the general rental of the 9x7 is now
available. The 9x7 is a new high-end cinema camera with global shutter
and ground-breaking sharpness. It has unmatched low-light capabilities
and color accuracy that offers superior image quality at a lower cost.
Aimed to replace multi-camera arrays and 70mm film, the 9x7 specifically
targets high-end VFX, VR, Giant Screen and IMAX productions. Advanced
motion control and post workflows combine to provide new opportunities
for film makers.
June 21, 2021—Discover the wonders of the Mesozoic era at the Museum of Discovery & Science’s Newest Exhibit and movie, Dino Dana: The Movie,
presented by Sinking Ship Entertainment. An official ribbon cutting
took place on Saturday, June 5. Guests met Trixie, MODS’ resident baby
Triceratops, created make-and-take dinosaur skeletons, watched Dino Dana: The Movie on South Florida's largest screen, and became paleontologist-in-training at MODS’ new Dino Dana stage show

Universe for IMAX and giant screens. Designed and conceived for the largest screens on earth, Einstein’s
Incredible Universe takes audiences on a spellbinding journey through
space and time in a way few have ever experienced, revealing some of the
strangest phenomena in the known universe—the collision of massive
black holes, exploding supernovas and swirling neutron stars—all in
stunning, immersive 3D. Einstein’s Incredible Universe will be released to IMAX and giant screen
cinemas in early 2024, prior to the total solar eclipse that will sweep
across Mexico, the U.S., and Eastern Canada.
May 25, 2021—The Royal BC Museum in Victoria, BC, Canada, acquired the
IMAX Victoria theater from Destination Cinema Inc. (DCI) in late August
2020. The museum recently restructured its operations and concluded that
it would no longer continue with the Head of Theatre (Theatre Director)
position. As such, after 17+ years, Paul Wild left IMAX Victoria on
April 27, this year. Paul's successful tenure in Victoria bore fruit not
only for DCI, but for the industry as a whole, with its annual
attendance firmly establishing Victoria as a top tier theater. In
addition to many successful film runs and marketing campaigns, Victoria
also developed the giant screen network’s most successful
membership/loyalty program, the Annual Pass Holder Program, with over
20,000 members and annual revenues of over $1 million (to the end of
2019).

May 14, 2021—Hollywood Professional Association (HPA) has unveiled
the honorees for
its first HPA League Honors, which recognize diverse members of the
media and entertainment community who shine as examples of
accomplishment, innovation and leadership. Among the honorees is GSCA
board of directors member Patricia Keighley, Chief Quality Guru at IMAX
Corporation, who will receive The Rainmaker Award. The award recognizes a
leader who has deployed intelligent tactics & ensured their
company or organization achieved its sales goals and revenue targets and
honors excellence in financial performance and business
growth.
