GSCA is pleased to introduce Direct View LED 101: What It Means for Giant Screens, a new webinar series moderated by Paul Fraser of Blaze Cineworks.
As interest in direct view LED continues to grow across the giant screen community, this series is designed to help theater operators, distributors, and producers better understand the opportunities, challenges, and content implications of this evolving technology. Building on the strong interest generated by last September’s conference session in Austin, the series takes a closer look at both LED flat displays and LED domes, and the content for each, through practical case studies and expert interviews.
Each webinar began with a brief introduction to LED and a review of essential terminology and concepts, followed by featured speakers and audience discussion.
LED Domes and the Content for Them
The second webinar turned to LED domes and the unique production and presentation issues they introduce. The session profiled the Cosm LED-equipped Dorrance Dome at Arizona Science Center in Phoenix and included interviews with Alec Warren, Director of Dorrance Dome Experiences; post-production specialist Nate Cohen, who reformatted giant screen films for exhibition in the Fort Worth Museum of Science & History’s Cosm LED-equipped Omni Theater; and fulldome director Robin Sip of Mirage3D, who discussed best practices for creating live-action content designed for LED domes. Sean Phillips, ASC, GS director/cinematographer, also joined the discussion.
As with the first webinar, the program began with a short review of essential LED terms and concepts and concluded with audience Q&A.
