Statement of Purpose

Patricia Keighley, Chief Quality Guru, IMAX Corporation, Los Angeles, CA

I have a keen interest in continuing to represent you on the GSCA Board where I am proud to currently serve as a member of the Executive Committee, Event Planning Committee and Chair of the Governance Committee.

My decades-long, specialized large format experience, industry-wide involvement with emerging technologies, and deep understanding of the large format industry dynamics provides me with a perspective and the experience needed to forge the next iteration of the industry’s only member association that supports our community of exhibitors, content producers, educators and technologists.

I am dedicated to keeping the GSCA vibrant and relevant through my ongoing participation in several broader industry associations and collaboration with colleagues around the world.

As a serial entrepreneur, I believe the GSCA needs to think and behave like a start-up, again, at this point in its lifecycle in order to survive and, hopefully, thrive.  The COVID-induced limited resources of the association and its members mean we will have to be ultra-efficient and strategic in our planning – and not be timid about exploring new paths, realizing we will likely learn more from our failures than our past successes.  The GSCA members have a tremendous breadth and depth of skills and experience in this industry and beyond.  By collaborating, with the common purpose of strengthening the industry for all, we will succeed and persevere through the inevitable bumps in the road that will require rolling up our sleeves and intensive effort on all fronts.

It is important to me to keep up to date with emerging technologies, learning how to blend the best of those technologies with more traditional large format techniques for the optimal on-screen out-of-home entertainment experience, with maximum differentiation, at the best value.

As a former educator, I understand how the unparalleled quality and curiosity-provoking engagement of the giant screen experience contribute to the enrichment and entertainment of this story-telling medium and how those experiences have the power to make a lasting impression on a visitor. What a fantastic opportunity to make a difference and rise above the common denominator of ubiquitous screens and our ever-decreasing attention spans.

Following many years as a GSCA Board director, in 2013, I completed the intensive Directors Education and Certification program at UCLA’s Anderson School of Management. I believe my extensive Board experience and this additional training, focusing on current responsibilities of Board directors and officers, is valuable to the GSCA Board as we continue to face the industry challenges to profitably maintain and attract new audiences with a strengthened value proposition in these uncertain times.

I welcome your comments and suggestions at any time and look forward to the opportunity to represent you by continuing to serve on the GSCA Board for the 2027-28 term.

Biography

I am the co-founder of IMAX POST/DKP Inc., an IMAX subsidiary since 1988. Originating in Toronto, Canada and based in Los Angeles, CA, since 1997, I have been involved in the post-production of 500+ large format documentary and feature films released in the 1570 film, digital and/or IMAX with Laser theatre network worldwide over the past five decades.

Since the GSCA’s inception I am proud to have served terms on the Board Executive Committee, Event Planning Committee and Governance Committee.  Perhaps I’m best known as the host of the Films in Production and Projects in Development sessions. Partnering with the GSCA to prepare and present this content on an ongoing basis has kept me in touch with trends in our industry and knowledgeable about the documentary pipeline and its filmmakers. I am honored to have received the GSCA staff’s Big Shoe volunteer award for ongoing contributions and recognized by the GSCA for Outstanding Achievement.

I am committed to collaborate with GSCA Board, membership and staff to continue reimaging the GSCA to meet today’s unique challenges. GSCA’s growth and development are key to the association’s continued success, broadening relevant offerings to the members.

I have served as the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineeers (SMPTE) Executive Vice President, Finance VP; Sections VP; Hollywood Region Governor and Chair of the Hollywood Section, of over 1,000 members.  I am a SMPTE Life Fellow and received their Citation for Outstanding Service to the Society. I have written and produced many Honors and Awards gala events, served on multiple award selection committees, the 100th anniversary Planning Committee and as a Student Film judger for SMPTE and the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

This spring I was honored to receive the inaugural Keighley Award from Chris Nolan at the Kodak Film Awards, acknowledging meaningful contribution and dedicadtion to excellence in the large format film ecosystem.  The Keighley Award will continue to be bestowed on an annual basis.

In 2019 the Advanced Imaging Society honored me as a growth catalyst in the industry’s collective success with their Distinguished Leadership statuette.

By sharing my extensive industry volunteer experience I believe the GSCA is a stronger association, able to build on the strategies and learnings of peer organizations.

Keenly interested in the art of cinema and cutting-edge emerging technologies I am a proud member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and an Associate member of the American Society of Cinematographers.

I hold a BA in Psychology (McMaster University), a M.Ed. (University of Toronto) as well as Board Directors Education Certification from UCLA’s Anderson School of Management that has been instrumental in honing my leadership skills and preparing me to serve effectively as a Board Director on your behalf.

Thank you in advance for your support and your personal volunteer engagement that are the GSCA’s strength and our future!
