March 21, 2017—IMAX and The Scientific Center of Kuwait (TSCK), today announced an agreement to install IMAX’s next-generation digital laser projection system–IMAX® with Laser–at its IMAX® theatre. The laser technology, which is slated to be installed in June, will replace TSCK’s current IMAX film-based projection system and further enhance The IMAX Experience® for its visitors.

The Scientific Center of Kuwait, located in Salmiya, Kuwait, serves as the Arabian Gulf’s leading institution for environmental education. The Scientific Center was the first IMAX customer in the Middle East and has inspired millions of patrons with its IMAX theatre since 2000.

“We are excited to introduce IMAX’s groundbreaking laser technology to The Scientific Center’s guests,” said Abdullah Alshtail, IMAX Theatre Manager, TSCK.  “We remain committed to delivering the best possible cinematic experience available that will inspire and educate our patrons about our world. Today’s agreement reinforces this commitment and will set a new standard for immersive cinematic experiences in Kuwait.”

Nawaf Al-Rudaini, Marketing and Public Relations Manager at TSCK, said “The Scientific Center of Kuwait was established by the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Science and launched in 2000 as a gift for the late Amir of Kuwait, Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmed Al-Jaber Al-Sobah, to the people of Kuwait.” Nawaf added, “The IMAX with laser projection system will contribute to TSCK’s educational mission of simplifying science and promoting environmental awareness in a fun-filled learning place to the benefit of our visitors, public, tourists and students.”

“The Scientific Center of Kuwait was the first IMAX customer in the Middle East and remains a pioneering and innovative force in the region,” said Mike Lutz, Vice President Institutional Sales and Client Services, IMAX Corporation. “We are delighted to build on our successful, long-standing partnership through today’s agreement. IMAX with laser will offer the Scientific Center more programming possibilities and better support its mission of lifelong learning.”

IMAX with Laser represents a quantum leap forward in cinema technology—providing audiences with the sharpest, brightest, clearest and most vivid digital images ever, combined with a whole new level of immersive audio. The technology will enable TSCK to deliver the full array of the highest-quality IMAX digital content available. This will not only further enhance The IMAX Experience® for its patrons it will also offer TSCK a competitive advantage that can serve as a catalyst for future growth.

Designed from the ground up for IMAX's largest screens, the dual 4K laser projection system is equipped with a new optical engine and suite of proprietary IMAX technologies capable of projecting an image with up to a 1.43:1 aspect ratio with maximum resolution and sharpness, unparalleled 2D and 3D brightness, industry-leading contrast and an expanded color gamut that will allow filmmakers to present more vivid and exotic colors than ever before.

The new system also includes IMAX's next-generation sound technology that delivers even greater power and precision for ultimate audio immersion. It has been upgraded to 12 discrete channels plus sub-bass, and includes additional side channels as well as new overhead channels that will improve the system's ability to position sounds around the audience and further ensure every seat is the best in the house.

Some of the world’s most iconic venues have installed IMAX with Laser including the Smithsonian’s Air and Space museums (Washington, DC and Chantilly, VA), the Pacific Science Centre’s Boeing® IMAX Theatre (Seattle), the Auto & Technik Museum Sinsheim (Germany), the Museum Victoria IMAX Theatre (Australia) and the Montreal Science Centre (Canada).
