August 4, 2023—GSCA is thrilled to announce that Greg MacGillivray, Patricia Keighley, and David Keighley have been named recipients of the GSCA 2023 Outstanding Achievement Award. Honorees are nominated by GSCA members and selected by the GSCA Executive Committee based on contributions of lasting impact which best advance the giant screen industry, enhance the immersive cinema experience, promote lifelong learning, and inspire audiences as well as the industry. The awards will be presented during the GSCA Achievement Awards on Tuesday, September 19, at the IMAX Theater at the Indiana State Museum as part of the annual GSCA International Conference.

July 26, 2023—The Fort Worth Museum of Science and History’s Board of Directors is pleased to announce the appointment of Regina Faden, Ph.D. as the Museum’s new President. Dr. Faden succeeds Orlando Carvalho, who has served as the Museum’s Interim President since April 2022. 

July 25, 2023—IMAX Corporation exploded to one of the Company's biggest weekends ever at the global box office on the strength of Christopher Nolan's Oppenheimer, delivering a massive $35 million debut on only 740 screens worldwide. The stunning figure represented IMAX's biggest share ever of a film's global opening weekend box office with 20% of total receipts. Shot with IMAX Film Cameras, Universal Pictures' Oppenheimer set several IMAX records at launch. A GSCA special shout out to the theaters running 15/70 prints! 

July 24, 2023—Cosm today announced its partnership with Planetary Collective, the creators of award-winning space films Overview and Planetary. They will release Orbital, a new space exploration “Shared Reality” experience driven by Cosm’s state-of-the-art CX System that seamlessly bridges the virtual and physical worlds. This production will additionally be distributed across Cosm’s global network of planetariums as part of its Fulldome Premium Media Program.

July 24, 2023—Keith Sanford, Tennessee Aquarium president and CEO, announced several promotions and organizational changes as the nonprofit organization plans for the future. “We have begun a new strategic planning process to carry the Aquarium 10 or more years into the future. Succession planning is one of our priorities within this roadmap to the future,” Sanford says. “These promotions and organizational changes will help ensure our continued growth and success." 

July 24, 2023—IMAX Corporation (NYSE: IMAX) and Crazy Boat Pictures Ltd., together with Oscar®-nominated filmmaker Nathaniel Kahn, have announced they have completed production on Deep Sky, a new documentary on NASA's Webb Telescope (JWST). The 40-minute short film is narrated by Oscar®-nominated actress Michelle Williams and is currently slated for release across IMAX's institutional theater network in October 2023. 

June 29, 2023—Switch Energy Alliance (SEA) has commissioned experienced documentary maker and giant screen director Harry Lynch (Ride Around the World) to direct Energy Makes Our World, an engaging five-minute educational film for giant screen theaters to raise awareness of the importance of energy in all aspects of our lives. The film is available for no charge to any giant screen theater that wishes to screen it. SEA have enlisted giant screen veteran Mark Bretherton to assist with distribution of the film. Mark has more than 25 years of experience in the giant screen industry having run several IMAX theaters in Australia, worked in giant screen film distribution, and served three terms on the board of the Giant Screen Cinema Association.
