New Mexico Museum of Space History to Convert IMAX Theater to Spitz Scidome 4K Laser Fulldome Planetarium

May 12, 2016—On May 15, 2016, the New Mexico Museum of Space History's Clyde W. Tombaugh IMAX Dome Theater and Planetarium will temporarily close for the installation of the world’s first Spitz Scidome 4k Laser fulldome planetarium projection system. It will replace the existing IMAX projector and the “starball." The grand re-opening of the theater is scheduled for July 1, 2016, with a new name—the New Horizons Dome Theater and Planetarium, after the NASA spacecraft that recently flew by Pluto. Soref National Geographic Dome Theater & Planetarium (Dome Theater) at the Milwaukee Public Museum (MPM) will replace their giant screen 15/70 film system with a new 8K Digistar 5 immersive digital cinema/digital planetarium system from Evans & Sutherland.
