July 24, 2023—Keith Sanford, Tennessee Aquarium president and CEO, announced several promotions and organizational changes as the nonprofit organization plans for the future. “We have begun a new strategic planning process to carry the Aquarium 10 or more years into the future. Succession planning is one of our priorities within this roadmap to the future,” Sanford says. “These promotions and organizational changes will help ensure our continued growth and success." 

July 24, 2023—IMAX Corporation (NYSE: IMAX) and Crazy Boat Pictures Ltd., together with Oscar®-nominated filmmaker Nathaniel Kahn, have announced they have completed production on Deep Sky, a new documentary on NASA's Webb Telescope (JWST). The 40-minute short film is narrated by Oscar®-nominated actress Michelle Williams and is currently slated for release across IMAX's institutional theater network in October 2023. 

June 29, 2023—Switch Energy Alliance (SEA) has commissioned experienced documentary maker and giant screen director Harry Lynch (Ride Around the World) to direct Energy Makes Our World, an engaging five-minute educational film for giant screen theaters to raise awareness of the importance of energy in all aspects of our lives. The film is available for no charge to any giant screen theater that wishes to screen it. SEA have enlisted giant screen veteran Mark Bretherton to assist with distribution of the film. Mark has more than 25 years of experience in the giant screen industry having run several IMAX theaters in Australia, worked in giant screen film distribution, and served three terms on the board of the Giant Screen Cinema Association.

May 30, 2023—From producers Science North, in association with the Jane Goodall Institute, distributor Cosmic Picture and film producer/director David Lickley, comes Jane Goodall - Reasons for Hope. The documentary film makes its world premiere at Science North in Sudbury, Ontario, on May 30, 2023. This inspirational production is Science North’s 7th giant screen film, the likes of which include Jane Goodall’s Wild Chimpanzees, released in 2002 to international acclaim.

May 26, 2023—RedShark interviews cinematographer and inventor Pawel Achtel, ACS, about the ACHTEL 9x7 Digital Cinema Camera, which was specifically designed for IMAX, giant screen, VFX, and VR cinema productions. The camera uses a 9344x7000 sensor (hence the 9x7 brand name) with true correlated double sampling to be able to resolve up to 18,688x14,000 (260 Megapixels) resolution. In the interview, Pawel shares the history of the 9x7, technical specifications, and how it's being used.

Bad Robot, Glen Powell’s Barnstorm Productions, Zipper Bros Films, and Dolphin Entertainment produced the project that chronicles a year in the cockpit with one of the most exclusive aviator teams in the world, filmed with awe-inspiring IMAX cameras.
