GSCA 2022 Conference to Be Hosted by Tennessee Aquarium and McWane Science Center September 28-October 1
March 4, 2022—The Giant Screen Cinema Association (GSCA) is pleased to
announce that the Association’s 2022 International Conference will be
hosted by the Tennessee Aquarium and IMAX 3D Theater in Chattanooga,
Tennessee, on September 28–30, with the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel
Chattanooga Downtown serving as the official conference hotel. On
October 1, the McWane Science Center in Birmingham, Alabama, will host
GSCA’s Dome Day, with screenings in the IMAX Laser Dome Theater.
March 1, 2022—The Max McGraw Wildlife Foundation, Dorsey Pictures, their
partners Ducks Unlimited, and Audubon, and distributor SK Films are
proud to announce that Wings Over Water has been named as a
finalist for the Web of Life–Long Form Award at Jackson Wild’s World
Wildlife Day Film Showcase. Winners will be announced March 3.
March 1, 2022—MacGillivray Freeman Films is pleased to
announce production of a new giant screen film and live interactive
experience, Cities of the Future: Reimagining Our World (working title), slated for release in October 2023. Produced by the same team that created the award-winning film Dream Big: Engineering Our World in partnership with American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), Cities of the Future
explores the visionary ideas and innovative solutions engineers are
employing right now as they design the smart cities of tomorrow.
February 28, 2022—Canada’s Sinking Ship Entertainment (SSE) has announced that the company’s Dino Dana franchise will continue to stomp across the world with new products and partners. The upcoming offerings include a Dino Dana audio book published by Recorded Books, a new Dino Dana activity book published by Mango Publishing, and new Dino Dana
dinosaur figures—Zuul, Nanotyrannus, and Stygimoloch—released by Safari
Ltd., with realistic, accurate details and innovative Augmented Reality
features, set to come out in 2022.
February 23, 2022—IMAX closed out the 4th quarter of 2021 with $277 million in grosses–its best 4th quarter tally since 2017. Global box office for the full year in 2021 was $638 million, up 146% over 2020.
February 17, 2022—D3D Cinema is proud to announce that the Denver Museum
of Nature & Science will upgrade and replace their existing IMAX
Digital system with a state-of-the-art laser-illuminated 4K 3D
projection system designed and integrated by D3D. The new projection and
sound systems will serve as the cornerstone in a generational upgrade
of the giant-screen theater in Phipps Auditorium, which will also
include a renovation of the seating and other public areas of the
theater. D3D will be integrating Barco's latest high-efficiency 40,000-lumen
laser projectors with a premium QSC surround-sound system, MDI
high-gain projection screen, a capable Crestron-based
alternative-content suite and an enhanced accessibility package. The
newly upgraded theater is scheduled to open to the public in Fall 2022.
February 17, 2022—Dr. Peter Popp, CEO of Reef Distribution, and Tina
Ratterman, President of BIG & Digital, have joined forces to expand
content, marketing, and support to fulldome and giant screen theaters
worldwide. Reef Distribution has taken over distribution, including administrative,
accounting, and technical support services, for the BIG & Digital
catalog, which includes titles such as In Saturn’s Rings, Expedition Chesapeake: a Journey of Discovery, Star Dreaming, Whale Super Highway, and Legends of the Northern Sky. Ratterman will lead and expand worldwide distribution and marketing.

Experience Center in Salt Lake City on March 10, following the GSCA Film
Expo in Los Angeles on March 8-9. The GSCA Film Expo is the world’s
first industry conference to unveil this groundbreaking technology.
February 8, 2022—Jenn Bentz has been promoted to Director of Theaters at
the Pacific Science Center (PacSci) in Seattle, Washington. In her new
role, Bentz will manage PacSci’s two IMAX theaters, Laser Dome, arch
lighting, and production support. She will report to President and CEO
Will Daugherty and serve on the Executive Leadership Team.
